I have a game tomorrow night Vs the horse riding Bretonnians. This is what I was planning on bringing. Just figured I'd try to grab a few opinions before I headed out.
2500 Point Game : 2500/2500
Lords: 570 (Max 625)
Archmage (Metal): LVL 4, Silver Wand, Folairath's Robes
Prince: Armor of Caledor, Vampraces of Defense, The Other Trickster's Shard, Great Weapon
Heroes: 480 (Max 625)
Mage (High Magic): Annulian Crystal
Noble: BSB, Armor of Destiny, Great Weapon
Noble: Great Eagle, Great Weapon, Heavy Armor, Helm of Fortune
Core: 625 (Min 625)
25 x Sea Guard: Shields, Full Command, War Banner
25 x Spears: Full Command
Special: 575 (Max 1250)
16 x White Lions: Full Command, Terrifying Mask of EEE! (Champion)
16 x Swordmasters: Full Command, Banner of Eternal Flame
Rare: 250 (Max 625)
The basic idea is to ride out and meet him. If I can deny him the charge, the game is pretty much mine because he'll lose the lance bonus. And even if he gets the charge, I simply shrug and express my love for ASF. Flaming banner, mask of EEE, and metal mage make me cause fear in 70-90% of his army, which I hope to couple with the (comparativly) low leadership of the Brets. Lvl 1 mage hides in a corner and casts drain magic, LVL 4 goes in with the LSG. If LVL1 gets a good spell in High Magic (Flames of the phoenix, Vauls) he might go in the spear unit so he can be usefull. Prince and BSB will go with swords and lions based on what is across from them on the table at the time. Noble on eagle will take out trebuchets, then provide a nice flanker on those blocks of knights. 3 GW attacks, then only two knights get to attack back. They'll likely be steadfast, but every kill counts. And if they turn to face the eagle, they've presented me a flank to charge with another unit. Or theres that lovely rear charge option too.... RBT do what they do best, and the Eagle is there for a second trebuchet, or to take care of the first one while Noble/Eagle start hitting flanks.
Was thinking about getting rid of the eagle, but don't know what I'd use the points for. No, I will not be adding any Phoenix Guard to this list. I don't think they can get through the Bret armor, and I only own about 8 of them. Otherwise, fire away with questions/comments.
quick questions 1 name character allowed and two if you had more Phoenix guard they would be great to protect your mage for future referenced. If name are allowed i I were you would consider Korhil instead the second noble and place the bsb in this unit with the two mages for the reason of protection but your choice. Friendly game is that but tournament TECLIS lol but yeah.
There is no rule against Named Characters, but I just don't like to use them unless I KNOW my opponent will be. And even then I don't like using them much. I like to be able to customize my characters. As for Teclis, I used him once and caught so much flak for it that I will never use him again. The fact of the matter is that he can be very effective, but at the same time is a huge point sink. Plus, if you know what you're doing its very easy to take out Teclis. Not worth it at all, even if I did play that cheap. Just go with a Book Mage. But even that I don't do often.
As for Korhil, I fail to see how he will be as effective as my noble on eagle. He will be unable to engage war machines on turn two, and will be completely unable to handle small units or flank shots on his own. Plus, my build sports T4, 3W, and flying. Much better than the potential for killing blow in my opinion. Also, that many characters in a single unit is just BEGGING to be hit by Dwellers Below. I don't expect him to sacrifice a unit of knights to get an IR Dwellers Below on one of my units, because it simply wouldn't be cost effective. If I had 4 characters in there, it'd be worth it. I'd rather not give the option.
Phoenix Guard. I use them from time to time via proxy (converted spearmen with dwarf axes on the tips), but I don't like to proxy until I know my opponent is OK with it. This is the first time I'll be playing this individual, and I'd rather not proxy until I'm sure he won't get irritated by it. Plus, as stated, they will be unable to pierce the Bret armor. Yes, they last longer. I will not argue against that. But all I have to do is survive the charge and I'll be alright. And with ASF, he'll typically lose a decent portion of his lance formation anyway, so surviving with everything else is already that much easier. Tack on that I'll be causing fear anyway, and the PG in this battle don't seem to be worth it at all.
I am going to say this before i explode Teclis is High elf Tournament army must have and if you place him with Phoenix guard Caradyan Bsb full Phoenix command he will be in 2nd rank and place another troop to protect your flank as easy as that to protect Teclis like really. You can ignore my advice if you wish but I used teclis last game if i would have done what i just told u I would of won but you learn by your mistakes.
