Tournament this weekend. First ever official tournament, so it should be fun. Honestly, I'm more going to become familiar with the scene than to actually win. That being said, winning is always fun too! So I've brought this list up and I was looking for feedback. Haven't decided if I'm going with Wood elves or High elves yet though. I've already posted my WE list (in the WE thread obviously). Anyone familiar with both races, please offer your suggestions and advice.
Prince w/ Great weapon, heavy armor, dragon helm, vampbraces, amulet of light (248)
Archmage (LIFE) w/ lvl 4 (260)
Mage (High magic) w/ annulian crystal (140)
Noble w/ BSB, Great Weapon, armor of caledor, guardian phoenix (168)
23x Spearmen w/ Full command (232)
29x Spearmen w/ Full command (286)
10x Archers (xxxx)
18x Swordmasters w/ full command, ironcurs icon, razor standard (350)
14x White Lions w/ champion, musician (228)
14x White Lions w/ champion, musician (228)
Eagle goes after war machines and lone characters, while everyone else marches forward at full pace. Engage and destroy. Life mage buffs the swordmasters, as they'll hold the BSB and prince. Numbers are modified intentionally to be one less model than needed for ranks. This keeps my opponent guessing where I'll be putting the characters, and also allows for extreme flexability in doing so. If characterless (likely), lions will probably run 7x2. Please critique at will. I've also got my other list posted in the WE forums, so if you're familiar with both races please offer your suggestion of which one you'd rather take.
armor of caledor and guardian pheonix is often not needed since we can take armor of caledor and a great weapon, then he works really well in challange, for the points add a jewel of dusk or silver wand of archmage (maybe an musician on archers)
bigger units of white lions is good, i often take 21 white lions and 14 sword masters.
i see one problem in the list (big problem), if you meet a shooty empire list with mage(s) and alot of shooting you cant stop him soo you should definatly add a silver wand (my opinion) too get alot of choises too make sure that your units end with ass small damage ass possible.
an army that seeks to fight without the protection of the eagle claws is clearly courageous or inept. either way, í wish no part in it - Eolaran Greyhawk, Seamaster.
tournament is over, i placed third with the above list. Guardian phoenix was extreamly neccesary, and I called on it on several occasions. Still left the battle standard dead in 2 of 3 rounds however. Doesn't matter how much he and the unit can kill... he's still only T3. Lions were the star of the list, taking out steamtanks and stegadons alike. 7x2 worked great, and I'll likely continue to do exactly that in the future. Faced a 100% shooty dwarf force with zero problems. well, there was 1 problem. Swordmasters took a hit early, and I couldn't regrowth them. I ended up being forced into a charge agaisnt 37 Longbeards with only 8 of my swordmasters left. Turn 6 ended before the combat could, but the final numbers came down to 6 longbeards and 1 swordmaster. Of coarse, they did have the help of the prince and BSB in that unit (one of the games where the BSB didn't survive).
Looking back, there's not a think i would have changed. Swordmasters were great as a center, and people were too scared of the lions to get around me. Wand would have been nice, but there's nothing I could have dropped tto make the points for it. Musicians in larger units of archers (or stronger shooting like Wood elve glade guard) are a nice touch, but that unit is just there to fill in core requirements. if it kills something, great. but i never expected much out of them. They did manage to take out a salamander hunting pack though, so kudos to the archers.
All in all, a great list that I'm probably going to modify for the upcomming ard boys.
A idea I came up with would be to drop the Dragonhelm on the Prince, The Razor Standard and the Ironcurse Icon on the Swordmasters and then add a Ruby Ring of Ruin on your Swordmasters, Armour of Caledor on your Prince and a Silver Wand for your Archmage.
Other than that, the list is GREAT 0)
PS.- Sorry for posting after the tourny but I hope it can help for the future
Oh, sorry, I oversaw the Armour of Caledor on the BSB. But something else like Helm of Fortune for example (gotta love that helm) 0)
