Hey everyone, first time poster in the high elves section, I was planning to write up a list for use at a mini competition I am planning to have with a friend of mine, basically having fun trying to see who can be more cheesy, I took High Elves and he took Dark Elves. The basic premise of this army is to bombard my opponent with Magic Missiles from my various Spell casters, and buff any unit that engages the enemy.
The BSB and general run around in the Larger phoenix guard unit, acting as a vanguard whilst the sea guard pepper the enemy from afar and launch flank attacks. the Sword masters are there for Character and monster killing, though I only chose them because I prefer the models, I understand most people seem to say that the White Lions are better in general, and if i were to take this to an actual tourney I' probably change it (btw, potion of strength on a Swordmaster is just plain rude, IMHO). Also, I am not too sure about lore of Light atm, especially with the World Dragon banner essentially stopping me from helping my front liners, But atm It's either that or Life, and it suffers the same problem and only grants me one better spell- Dwellers, whereas Light at least helps me set up a maneuverable force and go better against undead and Daemons (the former of which would attrition this army to death otherwise, and the latter tear me a new one in CC)
The shadow warriors are filler/screener/harassment. Not expecting them to do much, but you never know.
All input seriously appreciated, as I am fairly new to High Elves and am hoping to improve my skill with this highly characterful army

if you're going for cheese, there is absolutely no reason not to bring Teclis. Magic missles aren't really my style, but if you know you're only facing T3 dark elves, the rigiht lore choice could be devistating. If you're after PURE cheese, I would do something like:
Teclis - Shadow
PG + BSB World dragon banner bunker
2 Giant Hordes of archers
10-15 dragon princes
With only one real "combat" unit, just have teclis cast mindrazor on it whenever it matters. 2 attacks at ws5 S9 with rerolls will kill almost anything the DE throw your way. Best of all, they're 'immune' to fire, so you don't need to worry too much about hydras. If you're not in combat yet, lower the toughness of one of his units and then bombard it with all your arrows. None of this pepper with arrows crap, make them worth it. Already wounding on 4's, you cast withering with IR, they're T2 at best, and you're wounding on 3's. better than average chance to make them T1 and wound on 2's. Dead dark elves.
The above is, of coarse, just a suggestion. Except for Teclis. If you're going for cheese, it doesn't get any better than Teclis.
I wasn't allowed Special Chars, Specifically teclis lols. Same with him, but i felt i lost out on that one in the end xD. Love the suggestion of thew Dragon princes, I'll have to look into that. Why the Eagles if i may ask though? They seem weak. Ah, I love hordes of archers
cheese fest and your NOT allowed special characters? sounds odd.... in that case go with mini teclis (Archmage with book of hoeth) and work from there. You'll want a lvl 2 backup mage too if you can't bring teclis. My suggestion is take them both in shadow. roll for lvl 2 first, and if he gets wither or mindrazor, drop it down. You want the archmage to know those two spells at the very least.
Eagle are invaluable. Not only can they typically take out small skirmish unit and war machines, but they can also redirect charges like no other. Park an eagle right in front of the enemies main block, and angle it away from your blocks. when he lines up on the eagle, he presents a flank to you. If the eagle holds (unlikely) you get a flank charge. if it gets killed, he can either overrun and give you a flank, or simply reform. if he reforms, the unit remained virtually stationary the whole turn. Then you can shoot it one more turn, charge yourself, or just back up and taunt him with a larger charge. The options truely are endless. Yes, eagle are weak. But they're not combat monsters. They're irritants. And they're very good at it.
Damn, fair enough I never thought to use eagles as that (being rare choices) but that's very interesting. Yeah, i ran the book of hoeth, but it seems dicey for what it does, But maybe I'll give it a second go. I'll write up another list soon and put it on
