Hey, so as you may already know I'm doing an escalation. I have a Caledor themed army in mind and I'm planning to go phoenix guard rather than White Lions. I know this won't be the 'optimised' list but I want to make it playable. C&C welcome.
Archmage (with PG or Spears)
Lvl. 4 Life, Folariath's Robe, Silver Wand
Caradryan (with Phoenix Guard)
Noble BSB (with PG or Spears)
Armour of Caledor, Amulet of Light
50 Spear Elves
Full Command, Banner of Arcane Protection
20 Phoenix Guard
Standard, Musician, Banner of Sorcery
5 Dragon Princes
Full Command, Banner of Ellyrion
I think it's pretty self explanatory. I wanted to get the Princes in because they are great models and I love running cavalry. Is Caradryan effective in this list? I have the model but could replace him with a mage, another eagle, etc.
Honey badger don't care.
Looks pretty effective to me.
As for Caradryan being effective, it's hard to say. He can be disgusting against certain things, especially lower toughness monsters, or high wound models. The last time I got effective use out of him was when I had him play Al Qaeda on a Necrosphinx, ie. I charged him into an unwinnable battle in the hopes of causing him to explode and taking the opponent out with him. It worked, but not something that I'd suggest doing everytime. I think he's a fun unit, effective in combat, but don't expect him to be a game winner for you.
Nights Justice Space Marines
Eldar Eth Kariel Craftworld
Spear of Kurnous - High Elf Expeditionary Army
Do yourself a favor and put Caradryan in with your Swordmasters. That gives your SMs Magic Resistance 3 (granting them a 4+ ward save against magic) and Cause Fear. I'd also swap Folariath's Robe for a Razor Standard to give to your SMs. Those two small changes will make your SMs a seriously dangerous combat unit. Caradryan will obliterate challenges and even go toe-to-toe with the toughest character, allowing your SMs to butcher the unit behind the character.
Also, putting your BSB with your spears is a good option, especially if they're going to anchor your battle line. I would drop one Phoenix Guard and use the points to replace Amulet of Light with Guardian Phoenix, giving him a 2+/5++. If you're not going to give him a magic standard, he needs to be as durable as possible.
Make sure to keep your mage with the PG, and try to keep them out of combat. They're best as a bunker for your mage so he can safely cast spells and take advantage of the Banner of Sorcery.
