I have a friendly match with a group of fellow gamers coming up, and I would like your opinion on my list. I will be fighting Ogres. With the high toughness average and loads of wounds I have decided on the following:
Vambraces of Defence
Riding a Dragon
Mage Lv2: 180pts (In with Spearmen)
Ring of Fury
Mage Lv2: 170pts (in with Archers)
19 Spearmen: 259pts
6 Silver Helms: 145pts
20 Swordmasters: 302pts
2 Repeater Bolt Throwers
Total: 2002pts (He will be fine with this)
PD: 6 + 1 Bound Spell
DD: 4 + 1 Scroll
The idea is to use the chariot, silver helms, and the Prince to smack the flanks when the Ogres get close, while the mages, archers and bolt throwers pepper the targets with fire. The only thing I am considering is changing the unit of Swordmasters for a unit of 20 spearmen and a great eagle.
Let me know :ninja:

Swordmasters are the way to go against ogres. They can kick ogre a$$.
I would make sure to have 2 eagles. Ogres are fast and flanking em isn't that easy. Best is to use eagle to block the ogres and have em charge eagles. Then you can get flank charges with ranked units.
Also in my personal opinion 2000 points is not enough to justify a dragon. The game will be all about the dragon and unless he bring DOW cannons he's pretty much powerless against it. Makes for a boring game.
Just my 2 cents.
i dunno a dragon is always fun for the phsycological ( im to tierd to bother with spelling) effect and ogres arnt poweless against the dragon they have leadbelchers they dont roll to hit and fire an artilary dice each
A dragon against Ogres is no fun. Might as well claim victory immediately. 2000 point games are too small for dragons anyway. All you have to do against ogres with a dragon is stay out of combat and breath fire while shooting you magic (seafaerer or reaver bow).
keep the sword masters though. They are awesome against Ogres.
Have to agree with Sylvester about the dragon (can't believe the rumors about the new hgh elf book where 2-4 dragons in a 2000pt list is legal)
anyway, I would ditch the archers and put your mages somewhere safe. Most Ogre armies have gorgers come on and they would love to eat a unit of archers with a mage in it.
i think it's kind of funny for ogres to fall into a pit of shades, but that is usually difficult to get off. High magic would probably be just as useful. Maybe fire.
Swordmasters rock, but someone will want to carry the power dice banner, there's no point in taking mages with out the banner of sorcery. It's too good for it's points.
But this is your friend, so you know what you can get away with and what would make a fun game - so go with your gut. (hopefully not an irongut)
