As the title may hint at, this is the army I was using for a couple of recent tournaments, both of which I won best overal general (only lost 1 game out of both tournaments against Brets using Beast Magic)
-Vambraces of Defence
-Amulet of Purifying Flame
-Sword of Striking
-Pure of Heart
5 Silver Helms
5 Silver Helms
9 Silver Helms
-Banner of Ellyrion
2 Tironic Chariots
2 Great Eagles
2 Repeater Bolt Throwers
Total - 1993
General Tactics for the army::
Swordmasters stay back to protect the Bolt Throwers for a couple of turns - then once everything else is in combat they move up the field
Prince goes with the big unit of Silver Helms and moves up the field through cover
1 Small unit and Chariot take a flank each - Helms for Flank charge Chariot for frontal on 1 enemy unit
Eagles hunt warmachines / Marchblock
2 Mages simply for dispelling (though sword of Rhuin makes a nice edition) - they go with the smaller Silver Helm units
Commander on the eagle, ok people say this is a waste of points, but how can something that can fly 20" fire 3 str5 arrows and almost always need a 2 to hit bad? == normally used for marchblocking and general annoyance
Why have the mages at level 2 if they are only for dispelling? Level 1's wouldve done the same job & saved you 80 points. Also wouldve let you get a second dispel scroll.. That 80 points gives your opponent a handicap of a small unt. Say a unit of Harpies or skinks etc.
I cant picture it winning a tourney (let alone 2) unless there were no gunline Dwarves or cav heavy Bretonnians. among other things. & you were a self-confessed newbie as recent as a few weeks ago :hmm:
but if you say so..

Your army is fine if you want to play with cav. but as been said you have problems against some races. Empire will also be a problem for you I guys because they have cheap unbreakable and stubborn units.
The worst thing about your army is that you always will be out numbered and you aren't able to get enough rank bonus. In my opponion you have used to much points at characters and speciel items.
ps. I love the chicken commander
I agree with Manu_Forti, I just can't see this list winning a tourney, let alone 2. Lets break it down...
1. You have 2x level 2 mages and only 1 dispell scroll. Thats 4 dispell dice? Sorry but against a true magic heavy army, thats nothing. Making them level 2 for defensive purposes is a waste of points.
2. The Sword Masters gaurd the artillary? Well, that pretty much puts them out of the first half of the game. This also puts them in range of artillary as the rest of your army moves into archer/handgunner range.
3. I don't see how your Prince in a unit of 9x Silver Helms doesn't get blasted with everything you opponent has.
4. Most veterans won't allow their units to get flank charged. Using terrain, skirmishers, charge blockers and the such. So your small cavalry units and chariots will have to face units head on. They won't be able to break tough troops or a unit with a nasty character so they will be bogged down and open themselves up for a flank charge.
You have very little models at this points level, an ineffictient strategy and a lot of points tied up.
I am going to have to concure. You speent a chunk of points on a combat unit that gaurds 2 warmachines, you have 2 lvl 2 spellcasters used for defensive purposes, and you are always asuming taht you can get by the enemy's flank.
