just built my army...please let me know what u think
2 bolt throwers
~shield and armor
~hero mounted w/lance, heavy armor, helm of fortune, sword of might, pure of heart, and enchanted shield
~Shield and armor
~level 2 mage w/seer,channeler, and silver wand
~level 2 mage w/dispell scroll and Ring of Fury
6 Shadow Warriors
~1 hero on foot w/long bow, shadow armor, sword of battle
total points 1912
I looks like quite a good basis for a starter army, but I do have a few suggestions/tweaks:
1) Drop the light armour from the archers, it is a waste of points
2) Make the spearmen 19 strong
3) Change the mounted heroes kit to the following:
Sword of Might
4) Take the mages out of the chariots and put them in the spearmen units for protection. Keep the chariots for flank charges
5) Drop the hero in the shadow warriors. It doesn's really help the unit.
This should leave you 180pts spare for other things. I would suggest the following investments:
a) 3 more shadow warriors
b) 2 Great eagles
c) a musician for the other group of silverhelms
d) a standard for the heroes unit, and a banner of Ellyrion for that unit
This will give you 2001pts (check with you opponent to see if that is ok) If it isn't, drop the channeler honour from the mage
Hope this helps

Your hero cannot have a lance and a magic weapon, stick with the Lance. I can't help but feel that the army is very small, even for Elf standards, but it has been a while since I played HE. Definatly get some eagles in and I think the ring of Corin is great, definatly go for it! Spearmen are good, maybe turn the two SH units into one big unit and get one other small unit. Maybe take out the hero in the shadow warriors as even with him in it they won't be able to break a full unit in combat and SW are more than capable of killing war machine crew etc on their own.
As has already been mentioned you need to work around with the heroes a bit. Mages in chariots are just asking for a close encounter with a cannonball or three, so like Gingerninja said, put the mages in the spearmen instead (or even the archers if you're using a long range lore and the enemydon't have any quick units that can get to them) . While I'm on the subject of archers the light armour upgrade isn't worth it. If they get into combat they WILL die, light armour or not.
As for the mounted commander I have two points:
1) If he has a magic weapon he MUST use it. This means that having both a lance AND a magic weapon is pointless.
2) You can only have one item of magic armour so he needs to lose either the helm or the enchanted shield
The commander in the shadow warriors won't be all that useful. I would consider either dropping him, or turning him nto a BSB to add to one of your other units.
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.
