Right, so I'm facing Empire soon with my HE and I want to be prepared. I haven't really fought empire much.. I'm drafting an army list, so I thought I should get some opinions on what to take. I know that the character setup will most likely be 2 warrior priests, 1 mage and an arch lector. So pretty strong magic defence and a lot of bound items.
For that reason I've taken an archmage with staff of sorcery (and ring of fury). This will pretty much nullify all the bound spells, since I'll be dispelling them on 2+.
I've decided to go magic heavy and try to overwhelm his magic defence, so I've got 2 commanders; one with radiant gem and one with ring of corin. The one with the ring is on a barded steed with heavy armour, enchanted shield and lance so he can fly with silver helms. Not sure where to put the other one or what to equip him with yet. The banner of sorcery is also a must to get more power dice for my archmage, so I've included a unit of 6 dragon princes with it.
I'd like to start taking more infantry, because I think they do have potential and can work well, plus they will hopefully be even better in the new book. 2 units of 20 spearmen with full command will set me back 500 points, I'm willing to drop one of the units if there are better options though.
2 chariots and 2 bolt throwers is standard for my lists, even though my chariots have been a bit shaken by cannons and s7 dwarf bolt throwers lately in the first turn...
That leaves about 180 points or so. I know eagles are pretty useful, but I wouldn't mind some archers or maybe even shadow warriors to take out any fast cavalry. A second unit of silver helms is also pretty common for me, which is probably a good addition, and would leave around 20 points left.
So yes.. Any ideas? The most set in stone thing is probably the staff of sorcery at the moment, I'd really like to leave those warrior priests bare of spells.
You're looking at facing either 9 dispel dice or 7 dice and 2 scrolls.
Is it really going to be worth it to spend all those hundreds of points to get a spell through a turn?
Quite possibly not.. But I should be getting more than 1 a turn, he'll waste 3-4 dice just on my two bound items each turn. Then the commander throws a spell, and the archmage lets out a couple of high level ones. You're right though, I am spending a lot on magic.
I've made a list anyway, I don't know what lores to take.. I was going to take beasts on the commander so he can have bear's anger, its RiP so I can just cast it in the first turn and let him go. Then for the archmage I'm tossing up between light and death.
hi i think that life is a very underestimated lore i usaly use 2 levle 2's and a commander but the lv2 both have seer and then life choose the terrain spells master of stone and master of woods so then you can stop war machiens
