Here is what I'm cooking up for my all cavalry HE army
Tyrion in the middle of 4 dragon princes (looks cool) - unit of 5 pts - ~600?
24 silver helms - 4x6 units
10 reaver in 2 units of 5
Later will add great eagle or 2
Want to play at 2k - 2.5k
Is it too much to have tyrion in battles this size?
Will mostly play against a massive witch elf army with around 30 WEs 5 shades, 5 dark riders, bolt thrower, cauldorn of blood and 20 RCBs and 12 spearmen
Also a dwarf army...
I think all cavalry is glorious and somewhat reckless but thats how I like it...
Its unfluffy to have Tyrion in any game below 6k, in my opinion... But why dont you get the High Elf Army book first, then post a real army list, then I can help you.
Although most people would be fine with a Special character in 3k, or 4k for super characters (Malekith, Zacharius etc)
All cav is only reckless if you play it recklessly, if you get your positioning and charges right then there is little risk.
My friend and I played a 3000 high elf vs dark elf batlle once, i took tyrion and he took malekith. it was a very fun game, i was a little dissapointed that tyrion and malekith were placed on opposite flanks so they never got to fight (tyrion would be ripped to shreds anyway) tyrion and about half of my army took on the majority of his forces while the other half was offered up as sacrifices to malekith. in the end my last mage used his last moments of life to cast vauls unmaking on malekith's armour, he was then shot by 15 high elf archers, who managed to hit him instead of his dragon, then since he was wounded on a 4+ he went down easily , and my friend gave up. This is a crazy story that has about a 1 in a billion chance of happening and has nothing to do with anything. but i like to talk about how the king of the dark elfs got killed by a 180 point unit of HE archers.
i dont know about 4 chariots, i never really appreciated HE chariots as they arent very strong or tough and fairly expensive i would trade a couple of them for more silver helms or a larger unit of DP's with tyrion.
I am quickly regretting my over zealous purchase of 4 chariots... <_<
speaking of which, I have 2 *brand*new*chariot* boxed sets for sale/trade... need more SH's...
Keep the chariots. Sure High Elf Chariots arent tough, but they are fast, reliable (not stupid, frenzied, etc) and counts as D6 SH attacks which hit automatically! In addition to the steeds and the crew. Main advantage is of course that they can fit in a battle without taking the whole front or the unit. 3 Chariots fit where 6 SH fit, and cause 3D6 S5 hits + steeds/crew, instead of just 6 attacks + steeds. This makes the chariots VERY useable. Drawback is of course that they move slower than your cav, but they charge longer than the SH, thus making them great for striking into combat from behind the SH line.
If you positioned the 4 chariots between the SH units and put them 5" in front at the start your army would all arrive at the same spot on a turn two charge. Assuming 9" and 16" that leaves 7" That means they charge 2" further then 5 ahead would be good - maybe 6 or 7 would enable you to hit the flank but it would look wierd and may push you out of turn 2 charge range - giving another round of shooting...
I like the chariots for sentimental reasons - I also think Tyrion is cool and that he is basically like a whole unit - he looks cool with dragon princes - may make him something lesser but use his model.
I think 4 chariots looks cool and if I take less than 3 it seems lame. Also I may be facing a dwarf army with king kazador and want a powerful hero to take him out.
Haven`t I met Tyrion in your 2000p army a few times, Slai? Its unfluffy to have Tyrion in any game below 6k, in my opinion... But why dont you get the High Elf Army book first, then post a real army list, then I can help you.
Even met Tyrion and Teclis together in a 4000p army once...
Plus you took Tyrion in the last 4000p battle we played, so stop lashing out at the new guys. And hey, don`t remove this post! It`s just as on topic as yours...
What's the strength of tincan brets?
Charging lance and extra ranks
Charge their flanks with some Dark Riders,
Give the silly knights some spanks!
Words from the Russian poet Svart.
Sure you have. I dont see the point... I said it was unfluffy. I play an all-friggin-cavalry army. What do I care about fluff?
Now, on with the subject.
but unfluffy army lits do badly in tournaments... even though tyrion looks cool...
