im new to High Elves,
i started with it cause it looked like a fun and strong army to play with, i also like the looks of it
i do require so help if possible
my friend plays with the dwarfs, and i have noticed that my army had a hard time beating his gunnery line, (16 quarelers, 10 thunderers, organ cannon, 2* bolt thrower)
my archers had a rough time killing him, with his T4 and high armour saves. while his crowsbows and thunderers killed me with ease...
i figured out repeater bolth trowers are the way to kill his thunderers and quarrelers, but still... how do tackle these sturdie dwarfer?
what units are nice to use?
thanks for the help
First of all, welcome to the HE!
Dwarven gunlines are the toughest army to kill for any HE force, but I will try to help as much as I can.
The quarrellers can easily be dealt with by using regular archers or RBTs. I find that a 10 man strong unit of archers will do reasonable against any other light armoured missile troops. The key to win against most gunlines are to stop the enemy from shooting ore hitting you, and shadow warriors ore eagles will do very well in stopping them from shooting. Either scout with SW or fly in behind him with the eagles. To make it harder for him or to take out his war machines I would recommend using the lore of life, as many of the spells are ideally against gunlines.
I don't know what points sizes you play but if you play 2000+ you should really consider taking teclis with the lore of life. Also it is important to get to and break his troops as fast as possible while your scouts or eagles is doing their job. To do this you will need at least one unit of DPs. For infantry I would use PG and WL. The PGs could just march forward to absorb fire and the WLs will move through woods to get cover.
This is my experience with gunlines and I hope it helped. I would however wait for more replies from other LOers as their knowledges on gunlines should be far greater than mine.
5000p. High Elves
Gunlines are not the most difficult army for elves to beat. Take a ton of heavy cavalry, white lions and phoenix guard and once you've got to the short **** they're going to die. Magic could be helpful, lore of life and the magic item which allows you to choose you're spells. Then take the howler wind and luagh at the most likely to be inbred short **** then KILL. KILL. KILL.
. "Stop complaining ponce and hit stuff with yer shiny new axe"
wow... sounds like a Druchii to me.
i do agree though. If you need infantry, the PG are great with their Wardsave. Next are the WL, with their added bonus against shooting. DPs are good because they get a nice base save, but mostly just because they're only getting shot for about 2 turns.
For magic, Lore of Life is nice- especially rainlord. Lore of Death is good for Pit of Shades, and the Lore of Metal is nice for slagging armor.
DON"T USE TECLIS! (unless you want to be labled a weinie) The special characters are mostly broken, and if you start using them now, you'll never figure out how to play the game correctly (using strategy, instead of some underpriced, over-compensated named character)
Dwarves are actually, the easiest army to beat (especially without the grudge-thrower and anvil) Beastmen are probably a little easier to beat, but dwarves are pretty simple too.
As has been stated, our movement and cavalry are much better and can easily take out warmachines. Even shadow warriors with their hatred, can take out most warmachines or at least tie them up long enough for the cavalry to arrive. Magic (lore of metal) works really well vs dwarves. Most of the other suggestions have worked as well. We're just tons better. Watch out for gyrocopters though.
