Are these models worth it? I inherited 10 from a friend(old metal models) and i was wondering if it would be worth it to buy the command + Caradryan, Captain of the Phoenix Guard. when building up a high elf army. They look really great and im looking forward to customizing the regiment.
Phoenix Guard are great as they have a 4+ ward save, which is pretty rare in a unit that is pretty handy in combat, and which causes fear, so can go toe-to-toe against most enemy units without suffering auto-breaking...and Caradryan is one of the better hero choices given he causes fear, and has a flaming halberd, coupled with a "free" 4+ ward save and the powers of Asuryan to wreak vengeance upon whosoever kills him...
They are a realy good unit. i use them in just about every list i make. I use them as a tarpit unit, let them get charged, hold a round of combat and then counter charge with a flanking unit. Give the champ the cold blooded item and they are bound to hold. As kithre said the 4+ ward is swt as worst case you are rolling 50/50 rolls to see weather they live or not and thats not including there armour. Someone mentioned on another post get korhill the captain of the whitelions and put him in there making the unit stubborn, ltd 9 oooooooohhhhhh yeah
Thanks a bunch. Deffinately going to invest more into them. Plus they look pretty sweet
Caradryan is actually a bit overpriced for what he brings, he isn't the best choice. And he is definitely overpriced if you put him with Phoenix Guard, it seems silly but that is the worst place for him. His fear becomes useless since the whole unit causes it anyway, and his magic resistance isn't that great since most people will target other units rather than face the ward save with magic. If you want to take him, then put him in a different unit.
Phoenix Guard are a fairly good choice, they don't hit as hard as the other elite infantry and only have a bit more survivability than WL at range, but their models look absolutely fantastic. They are a good choice and their fear can definitely make a big difference when they engage units.
I don't play with special characters, so the caddy wouldn't interest me. PG on the other hand are a great unit. I run them 16-17 strong with a bsb. They won't ever kill anything, but they don't break easy with fear and a decent amount of combat resolution (warbanner or bsb)
