Im just curious, if I managed to get my hands on Eltharion, Alarielle, and a unit of hand maidens, if I coud use them in a non-friendly game. I dont have the army book so I cant look it up myself, so anyone that does have it, say yay or nay.
Also, can a High Elf army take a Giant?

Those characters and the handmaidens are not in the newest ed. of the HE army book. I doubt you'd be able to use them in a non-friendly game...only if the game host is willing to let you. Seems pretty unlikely though.
Eltharion is in the current book, and Stormwing (his griffon) is optional so you can take him on foot. He wouldn't have the cool rules for Eltharion the blind, but he could be used. The others haven't been updated for the new book so can't really be used with it.
As for the giant, it is unfortunately not an option for High Elves as fantastic as it would be. I'd definitely use one if I could.
The Hand Maidens could proxy for Sea Guard as they have spears and bows, or else you could use them as unit champions amongst your units...The banner bearer can be the army standard if you'd like
The Alarielle model can be an Archmage, or even use the rules for Teclis and say Alarielly "counts as" Teclis...
So you can use them in any game you like, as long as they are consistent with current rules. You can only use them as Hand Maidens/Alarielle if your opponent agrees in a friendly game.
As to Eltharion - if its the "blind" version - give him some magical goodies and the White Sword and you have blind Eltharion(ish). You can lump him in with a unit of Swordmasters, or even use him as a Bladelord.... If its the Griffon version, you can use him as is in the current book...
yes you can use them, just most of them don't have official rules. "counts as" is the best you're going to get. I would use them as phoenix guard and a mage myself. Your Eltharion model could be a noble with great weapon.
As far as giants go - you can take up to 4 of them (4 rare slots in 2k game) but that won't make you any friends. To be honest, other than laughing uncontrollably when the giant actually does something, I don't see the point in taking one. Elves don't really need one. Giants die fairly easily and rarely do much other than distract magic and shooting away from your other units (maybe that's worth it) but they seem to be kind of expensive for a distraction.
Alright, thanks guys. That bit about using the handmaidens as unit champions sounds good, not really sure where I would be able to get them though.
The rules for elthariojn the blind and Areille plus handmaidens should be on the UK GW site, if not. I downloaded the rules
Personally, I think GW should have left Eltharion blind instead of slapping him on Stomrwing. It was only the lst edition that he was blind, wasnt it?
