i have a few questions. first and formost is as the topic heading states. are the high ef characters in the army book worth the points. second, as an afterthought in the army book there is a shaded caption which states that these characters can be taken without opponents consent. this is true of many army books. however on reading the bretonnain army book there was no clarification of whether bretonnain characters can be used without opponents consent. sorry for deviating from the topic but just curious as i just wish to know if i can take special characters bt bretonnains can't
If the line doesnt read that they CANT be taken without opponents approval, then they can. Its just because in 5th ed you couldnt take any special characters without opponents concent. Now, they have changed that.
I would say Eltharion is worthwhile. He is an interesting character, due to not being overpowered, plus he is cheap (sort of) and adds character to the army (removing the 0-1 on Swordmasters). If you dont know, you get his rules on the Chronicles section of the Gamesworkshop site.
Teclis, as well, can be a great addition to a magic heavy force (in 3k+ games), since he is the most powerful mage in the world. Rerolling spell effects and having no range restrictions makes him a psychokiller with the Lore of Death.
And dont forget that he can drink his potions at ANY TIME.
tks slai. teclis is pretty good - used as i desctribed earlier - although that might be slightly unfair with those new rules you pointed out.
i am still deciding whether to use tyrion or not. On his own i think he would not to do to well as he might get broken due to outnumbering, rank etc and get run down
perhaps he would be good in a uni of cavalry. that would really pack a punch. could be a main unit for smashing the enemy (my oponent plays bretonnains)
Tyrion is great at ripping things apart, and doing challenges, however lile you said, he needs a bodyguard to be effective, this means a helluvalot of points go into one unit.
Teclis is definitly worth his 600+ points in larger games, if you take the spells that hit every unit within 12" for example, Teclis can turn this spell into a monster. (removing the range limtation). Teclis can rival or outmagic a 2nd generation slann, but if you use him you will have a very small army.
High elves actually have the best special characters in the game IMO.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel allright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace, and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
Goblin kroozade of revengyness: win:19 draw:10 loss:9
They are all worth their points, but you can use the all units in 12" with unlimited range, its been changed look on the GW site, spells that affect all units within a set range are unaltered by the crown, useing this effect and the lore of death was considered abuseing the rules.
Id say Tecelis is VERY worth his points, he must be the most awesome mage around!!!

teclis does rule somewhat,l but tyrion is also quite a good choice seeing as he is damn fast and is also pretty damn strong in combat
I have used Tyrion before, he is damn near invincible. A VERY strong character and easily worth his points.
I had him in a unit of 6 dragon princes, they would have obliterated any unit. As my enemy advanced with Bretonnians I broke him off to kill the Duke on Hyppogryph while the dragon princes destroyed pegasus knights.
I prefer to take Korhil or Eltharion if i would take a charater, mainly becuase Korhil only takes up 2 heros, and Eltharion only takes up 1 lord, and they have decent equipment.
Eltharion is a good choice and teclis too. BUt i would think tyrion is a bit cheap for what powers he has got. Well that can be bad or good. But i would never use him cuz hes just TOO good. ps. NEver use imrik he kinda sucks.
