With the Black Knights, Blood knights, Cold one knights, and Chaos knights being pretty much supirior to Our dragon princes, and with older modles like grail knights also being better, Does anyone here still feel confident in our Dragon Princes or even Silver Helms?
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
1. Silver Helms are rarely used anymore. They are back into the "special" section, and you cannot take any magic items for the unit/champion. I have seen them, once in awhile, as flanking units.
2. Dragon Princes will alwyas be a favorite. They have a good amount of attacks, can carry a magic banner ( which HE have many nice ones ), some really good magic items for their champion, and a Noble/Prince can add greatly to their "punch".
Though, as all calv units, you need to use them wisely. All heavy calv, go down equally fast, under a hail of missile fire or under a barrage of spells.
Are DPs all that bad? Comparing them to SHs there really is no contest anymore - for an extra 7pts (with shield on the SHs) you get +1 leadership, +1 attack, +1 weapon skill, immunity to fire, and nice magical options...
Personally I very much like them, with a lord/noble as described. Excellent unit, but very much for flanking charges with 5 rather than trying to take anyone on head on (use big blocks of spearmen and PG for that).
Dargon Princes are amongst the best heavy cavalry in teh game, and get better when you add a banner of Ellyrion, and a magic item like amulet of light to the unit. These guys can are WS5, so as good as Blood Knights and Choas Knights, have ASF at a higher than regular Elf initiative, 2 attacks each, 2+ save and immunity to fire. Given that there are a fair few magic flaming attacks (most notably all the spells from Lore of Fire, and a fair few "cavalry killers" from Lore of Metal), this is not to be sniffed at..
They also have a longer charge reach than any of their peers except Grail Knights, and are the best the Asur have which makes them worth while.
Silvert Helms are all told about as good as Bretonnian Knights of the Realm, and unfortunately take the special choice. If we had this as a non-compulsory core, Silver Helms leap well up the list, as really only Bretonnians and Empire get any decent heavy cavalry as core.

Given the shift in the FO Chart, I don't think we're hurting for special slots anymore - but I would say that Silver helms really only become 'economical' in comparison to DPs when you're going for lots of small units... those DP command figures are pricey.
