hey im confused about whether or not are mages can take magic armour, it says in the rule book mages cant but in the army book it says may take any magic items up to 50 points, so does any actually meen any? also a friend of mine says my mages can take armour, i need to know the real answer
If a mage has access to mundane armour, then he may select magic armour.
Shields count kinda separately, they can only take magic shields if they have access to mundane ones.
Phoenix has the answer. Also bear in mind that generally mages cannot take armour of any description. There are a few exceptions, and these will state specifically that the armour can be worn by mages.
Also, what army does your friend play? Because Vampires, for instance, can cast spells while wearing armour.

1. Mages cannot wear "mudane" armor. As to say light/heavy armor, shields, etc. However, there are exceptions such as the Vampire Counts force.
2. Some "magic" armor can be worn by mages, and this would say so in the item's description. A good example would be Chaos Armor, if they didn't change it in the new armybook.
3. Technically, the only armor bounses a mage can legally get is from being mounted on a steed (6+). You can go farther, and give the steed barding (5+). Some "steeds" give a better armor bouns, such as a boar (5+) opposed to a horse (6+) before adding the barding ( armor for a steed ).
I hope this helps.
thanks guys, so pretty much i cant take any armour, but gaurdian phoenix and barded steed is the most protection a lone mage can get, and yes my friend does play vamp counts, i have an upcomming game this sunday against 2 vamp armys, im teaming with dwarfs so pretty much im on my own, just trying to make a magic heavy list to burn them, seems the best way to go
Just use 1 mage, with the Book of Hoeth. Basically, spells are cast or they aren't, no faffy dispelling lol. That way, you'll be able to get some huge spells through, and..
Still have the rest of your army available to team with the dwarves for combat!
just one huh? well if i did ill use teclis cause he has a built in book and banner of sorcery+misscasts dont work, then load up on troops, but i was also playing with the idea of tyrion to burn them
Use teclis if you want... but each time you cast a spell your opponents get a free punch to your face (sorry, house rule...)
