Hey guys, a mate of mine is going up against a big army of Black Orcs with Grimgor Ironhide at the forefront of it, with a giant threw in for good measure.
Any quick suggestions as to what to take against the Orcs and to combat Grimgor?
Points up to 2000pts (excluding Tyrion as no model as of yet)
Cheers for any replies
Get Caradryan.. Challenge Grimgor. Grimgor easilly kills Caradryan.. And let the Mark of Asuryan do the rest... If you are lucky you willl kill him..
Swordmasters- high numbers of attacks, and enough strength to actually wound an Ork. Take eagles alongside your RBTs, as the Orks have no real way of getting them out from behind them.
DO NOT TAKE ARCHERS, nor should you take minimum sized units. You're going to need bodies on the field. Otherwise you'll find yourself being flank charged.
However, you could load out on magic. Magic is something that can be quite helpful, since Orks don't have much response to it. Lore of Metal can help alot against those dastardly Black Orks and their armor.
A dragon lord is expensive, and really cuts out on that whole "bodies on the floor" tactic, but the Terror is quite entertaining against the Orks. Karadryan in a unit is nice too, since they need Fear Tests to fight him off.
While playing, keep the army in a line, try not to have anything directly behind anything else, as Orks may very well get the "blow through". Additionally, having your men close together means that you have fewer exposed flanks to worry about. If you've a general and a BSB in the middle of the army, you could become a little more resistant to breaking from combat, and then start working in on the flanks.
a prince with AoC and VoD with a great weapon or Halibered could hold out againt grimour if you roll half well, but i don't know if girmour ingores armour, and i belive he as ASF. use high magic, drain magic will probly keep his casting to a minimum and spells like Flames of the phoxie or Vaul's unmaking are great, use Vaul's to destory grimgores armour and/or weapon and use FotP to wound whole units. The lore of heavens Comate of Cassidora is a great spell It can hit many units at the same time, it's hard to keep around thou, just pray he forgets about it for a trun or two. use RBTs to do wounds, DP will be good same with WLCs. and don't over look spearmen or LSG (which are the bane of giants), well hope i helps and good luck
Even if Grimgor has ASF, he simply does not have the initiative of an Elf Prince. Prince on barded steed, with Dragon Armour, Vambrances, Talisman of Loec and possibly a Ring of Fury, Lance and Enchanted shield is going to be very, very hard to kill, even for Grimgor.
Against normal Orcs, Dragons are great because, generally , Orcs have average Ld, and Dragons can cause untold casualties. I wouldn't opt for metal against orcs, even Black Orcs are not that well armoured compared to say a Dwarf or Bretonnian list. Fury of Khaine is plenty good enough TBH
