Okay, i have a brother who collects Dark Elves, and i collect High Elves. The Dark Elves seem now to be alot more powerful because they are cheaper because they had tthat thing done to them. Do you think that the High Elves should also have that done. The DE spearmen are tons cheaper then the High Elf ones. Phoenix guard seem to suck, nobody seems to use them much, they should have a different speacial ability. Lotheren sea guard are to many points.I say that tthis persons idea is very good. He has the wright idea on how to redo the High Elves. What do you all think?Originally posted by 'from Asur.org
LSG Regiments are not often fielded as they are simply too expensive in their current format to be of real use without special "cheaty abilities" a.k.a. Master of the Mists in the SOC Sea Patrol List.
Now I have had an idea how to make them more useful (without increasing their arealdy horribly expensive price). This idea is also very fluffy. The Lothern Sea Guard are seaborne, assault Infantry with missile weapons.
They are used for boarding actions and seizing beaches. I would add a simple special rule (Perhaps called Boarding Action!. To represent this I think the LSG should Skirmish and the Regiment size limited to 15 models (Most skirmishing units are limited to 15 models).
The LSG is described as the standing army of the Asur, hence highly trained and disciplined. To represent this I would allow two exceptions to the normal skirmishing rules:
1. They form up as usual skirmishers when charged or charging but still receive a rank bonus.
E.g 15 LSG are charged by 20 Druchii Spearmen. The stand and shoot. All fifteen shoot. Kill 3 Druchii. The Druchii are in a 5x4 formation. The LSG line up to the Druchii frontage and then form ranks. The LSG will then be in a 5x3 formation.
2. Because the LSG form ranks they cancel opposing units ranks bonuse if they charge the enemy in the flank or rear.
I believe these abilities can be incorporated into the LSG without altering the price. Now if one compares a spearman with the LSG one sees that the LSG are paying 5pts per bow, but without any additional special rules to make the bows worth that price. The LSG command group is also 5pts more expensive than their spearmen equivalent and 10pts more than the avarage infantry command group of other races.
A LSG bow (without the elf) is almost as expensive as a Brettonian peasant archer. I would argue, looking at the SOC list (In particular at the ships company entry), that a LSG bow should be 2pts.
Add this to the price of a Spearman and that leaves 3pts remaining before we reach the current price of the LSG.
To determine the price of the skirmishing upgrade, I suggest you compare the difference in price between a archer with light armour and a shadow warrior, they are both identically armed. The shadow warrior is only 2pts more expensive than the archer, and has two more skills, scout (1pt) and skirmish (1pt).
Add 1pt to the cost of the Spearman with his 2pt bow. That leaves 2pts for the special rule Boarding Action!. This brings us up to the current price of the LSG.
These upgrades to the LSG would make them well worth taking, as they now gain full functionality with their bows and some defence against enemy shooting.
Also it doesn't break the existing ruleset like the Master of Mists, only alters them slightly. The Beastmen I believe already possess the ability for skirmishers to gain ranks and negate the enemies ranks.
I think that works well BUT, Sea guard are also used to form the partols battle lines, and line the shores, hence them being in regiment formation.

The Skirmishers i say that should be scrapped and thrown. They should get to do a free reform when charged, So like the get to stand and shoot, then form up into ranks, and have a -1 to hit in comabt or something like that because they have moved very quickly. The -1 would only apply for that turn though.
