Toying with the High Elf list I was wondering whether anyone had tried using a Noble on a Great Eagle as a war machine/mage hunter? IS it ever a good combination?
I started looking at what I could mount a Prince on that wouldnt eat up over a quarter of the points total in a 2000 point army- I still think a Griffon is too much (I prefer my characters to be cheap and cheerful!) but then I started to think that using the Lord slot up with a Prince when an Archmage would probably serve better is a false economy, then I reckoned that a suitably tooled up Noble coupled with the Eagles abilities could be a handy thorn in the side of any foe- but before I go about trying to make the miniature I want to see what others thought of the option, any good or a total waste of points/a hero slot?

My friend and regular opponent regularly uses this setup and gives the noble the star lance to hunt chariots, mages, and warmachines. It's fairly effective, I must say.
No, I don't have any wool.
I played a WE player the other day who had a noble on a war eagle. He tried to kill Teclis but Teclis was able to survive and with CR drove the carrier off. He failed to accomplish his task but he really scared me silly.
Noble on a great eagle with a Reaver bow can be extremely effective as well, he can be a threat both in and out of Combat that way. With a Lance he should do OK in combat since he shouldn't be fighting in the second or third rounds of combat. Only S6 (as opposed to 7 with Star lance) but that is effective enough.
I still use the following combination regularily:
Dragon Armour, Lance
Mounted on Great Eagle
This combination has served me well, as both a warmachine hunter, cavalry harrasing and as a rear charge combatant.
This attack elf is relatively cheap, and very very potent
New LOChat functions now avaliable.

I have always wantted to try a noble armed with the bow, on an eagle but presently I have problems with justifing the points. Reading this forum I want to try it. Going to pull my list out and try to arrange it. I want to defend my characters and I have been told that I play too defensively therefore I might just have to change my playstyle with the HE.
GN's is probably the best mix and he has more experience playing them, but for me personally, I can't stand to put a wimpy guy out there like that. The good BS and the range on the Reaver bow means I have just as many opportunities (targets) to kill stuff inside my unit as I do on a easily killed bird. Too many shooters and magic users in the armies I play against I guess.
I used the Noble on Great Eagle the other night against Lizardmen. I was able to take out his Skink priest riding on Ancient Steg w/ engine on Turn 2. He still had a slann, but that cut his magic down. Ended up with a SV.
