What drew you to the Asur? Out of all the races, why did you choose them? For me, the attraction is based almost solely on fluff. While there are other "good" races in the setting, I feel like the elves have something really worth defending. The Brettonians and the Empire may have their civilizations, but they're arguably just as brutal and repressive as chaos. The Elves, on the other hand, seem like the last, flickering candle in a dark world, rather than just another sort of shadow. This is not to mention their rich religion (which is wonderfully unique and flavorful), difficult but rewarding play-style, and the rockin' new plastic dragon!
When you're only 9, and you're looking for an army- you don't want to try and ask your parents to buy you anything covered in skulls or grisly bits. Elves are by far the "cleanest" of the armies. It was them, Dwarves, or Brets. I went for elves because they had the most accessible tactics, as they are essentially the roman legion, if the roman legion had suitable cavalry.
I then proceeded to fall in love with their Cavalry, and run an all mounted force that became my claim to fame. Now the only reason I've got the book, is to keep the army current, and I'm repainting them because my earliest attempts where pretty poor. I play them from time to time just because they're in the rotation. But deep in my heart, they're still my babies, and I still rush to fix every one of their fragile little lances whenever they break.
Because they had dragons and really good magic. Why else.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
I also wanted a clean and "good guy" army. The fluff is great. I play Brets as a second army, and I love their models and fluff as well. But the play style of Brets was pretty boring I thought. The Elves are much more challenging to win with. Also, the strategies I use tend to change a lot depending on who I'm playing. With Brets it's basically get a bunch of knights and ram them down your enemy's throat. The great balance within the High Elf army is awesome and keeps the game exciting. Besides, elves are undoubtedly the coolest race from the world of fantasy. Who wants to command an army of fat, smelly, drunk, ugly short dudes? (Here, drink this, it'll get you more drunk )

I choose the HE because my daughter was impressed with magic, lion chariots, RBTs, DM and dragons. HE have some impressive units and I believe that we are in the second tier of power armies. Most people say undead, daemons and DE are in the top three. I know that they have all three given me problems even when we won. The list could just go on.
I chose the Asur because they are highly ordered and 'elite'. I like their style of flowing robes and shiny armour, and yes, I even like the pointy helmets! Plus the fact that they have strong magic and a very rich background all helped this army to appeal to me more than the others.
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.
