So this tourney was held in Dunedin in New Zealand, for those of you who know where this is you know its an bloody annoying drive from Christchurch.
So lets go through the points system
It was marked the following way. 16.5% Compisition 16.5% Sportsmanship 16.5% Painting (this cost me) and 50.5% Battle Points
First game against a fellow Cantaberian Damon with Tomb Kings, and as you can see with the list above i was going to have trouble facing, 2 catapults 2 tomb scorpions and swarms. And to make matters worse he started. Twang goes the first catapult in the magic phase into my PG takes 1 wound and passes the test, Twang goes a 2nd hits some archers they all good, Twang goes a third (in the one bloody phase i did not have much luck here) hits PG again i fail my psychology test with my general and a mage in the unit, no point in saying the rest because its obvious i got to put it nicely (and not my original term which involved the behind) wasted.
Second game against another fellow Cantaberian Bazil the Dwarf Combat Player? Basically this game was alot more forgiving for me because we were more or less playing kill points and my archers managed to take down like a unit of the great weapon guys to next to nothing, This was funny because they had a 4+ save and a 5+ ward, he failed more than 75% of them, but that did make no difference to the result with me just flanking around his small units and taking out his bolt throwers and artillery (Organ guns hurt DP badly) Game 2 = WIN
Third game i finally played an inbreed Dunedin folks person Richard with his Vampire Counts, being a VC player as well i already knew how to win the only problem was once again he got first turn so he hides his Zombie Dragon on the flank of Bolt Throwers (The Terrain was against me obviously) and charged them next turn with it and his combat beast vampire lord on top, Did i mention he also had blood knights, that took a charge from DP and made me bounce which was sad because i fluffed them rolls then almost overran, just to be flanked by swordmasters, so while his ZD was raping that side, i was killing the BK, so end of his turn 3 he was now at the swordmaster unit behind my other SM unit because he killed a unit of archers and 2 RBT in 2 turns because he got a double charge with wolves one the other at the same time, Poor guy never realised SM have always strikes first so he took a wound then overran into the next unit and took another, so i was looking screwed here, but good ol lore of light came through and killed his ZD meaning he only really had his Vamp a necrocart a unit of ghouls and a zombie unit left to my chariot archer unit 2 mages bsb general and PG poor guy. He wasnt happy about losing his zombie dragon thinking my army was cheese when really i just had lore of light so he gave me a comp 2
Fourth game i played the 2nd worst army i could play (10 power dice with plus 2 to cast casters dam tzeentch) his army was only beaten in difficulty for me to beat by the Tomb Kings that Damon had, So i was playing Eugene, Then i was losing to Eugene, Then i was losing some more, until in the end i had nothing left this mission just happened to be a capturing mission that made alot of people unhappy because it was identical to a 40k mission, the unhappy people being the ones who had to take on terradons and harpies
Fifth game basically was a sham for my opponent basically he got unhappy part way through it after id killed more than half his army and id only lost my PG unit and a SM unit, he was playing beasts of chaos though, basically he conceded and i got my 3rd win
Sixth Game Poor Poor kid i had to play a 13 year old who was rather new to the game, before that game i was coming 2nd to last (DAM 16.5% painting and a not entirely finished army) so i had to play him, basically i just thought it would be fun to mostly go full guns blazing and thats what i did more or less, in the end i smashed him by like 1200 VP he played wood elves, although i did feel quite bad i had to play him seeing as for battle i was one of the higher competitors in the tournament.
Basically in the end i ended up 10 out of 23 and if painting scores werent involved i wouldve come 3rd so in my opinion that is more or less a Moral Victory
ive only put more of the interesting bits in this battle report youll notice how the last 3 games werent that interesting as it is 3 in the morning
How can anyone accuse that list of being cheesy? 2k points, only 2 RBTs and *no Lords*?!
Thanks for that report, I was there although not playing and I saw the start of that last game against the Wood Elves.
You should have done alright in comp but the Vampire counts guy had a straight up bad army (general on a zombie dragon is fun but going to die and cause crumble at some point), I am not sure how he could charge you if you couldn't shoot at him either.
It does sound like you did well, who won it in the end, the Bretonian or the Dark Elves, it looked like it would be the Dark Elves from what I saw of that last game.
I was seriously considering entering but I was busy all day Saturday and that sort of ruled me out.
Congrats all teh same, next time give yourself more than 2 weeks to finish painting, 'cos it sounds like you could have done really well overall.
and because i know damon gave me a 4 it also means another gave me a 2 because i ended with 20 comp
The terrain and side he had were both in favour of the Zombie Dragon for deployment basically buildings and a forest meant my arc for shooting for the bolt throwers was slim
