I'm thinking about adding a chariot or two into my army after my experience using chariots in a battle this weeked (proxy models used in the battle in case people are wondering. Battle report hopefully following as soon as I can get round to doing battle maps). As I can see uses for both Tiranocs and Lion chariots in future lists I was wondering if it's possible to assemble the chariot kit in a way that you can swap the pieces round depending on which you want to take, or are the kit parts designed in such a way that you have to pick one over the other?
I realise that I might need to make judicious use of my (non-existant) modelling skills to build them in a way that allows multiple use but I was planning on trying to put some magnetic basing material on the chariot floor anyway so that if it's kitted out as a Tiranoc I can take one of the regular crew out and put a character model in.

Off course there will always be a way to do something like that, but as you mention, if the modelling skills aren't there, well good luck to you.
I think you would need some good modelling skills, because it's not only to switch the crew and a couple of bits here and there, you have to switch the two horses/lions and there are not enough bits (I think) to build two sets of crew.
I'd say stick with one of the chariot, or get two of the kit. Whatever you choose, good luck and het those battle reports up! Looking forward to reading them.

Not having enough parts to make two lost of crew might not be an issue - when I started playing Warhammer again last year I went on a bit of a buying splurge on ebay before I realised that I'm probably only rarely going to field ranked up units of White Lions, so I could probably reuse some of those for crew. I'm thinking the unit champion model would probably go quite well with the chariot since he's pointing out the direction he wants to go. It would just be the driver that might cause some problems.
I was hoping that perhaps it would be possible to mount the horses and lions on cavalry bases, the chariot itself on a 50x50mm base, magentise the bases and get a 50x100mm piece of magnetic material to put it all on when its used.
My main concern then was going to be how to attach the chariot to its 50mm base (since I'm guessing that normally only the wheels make contact with the base) and whether the reins part is just going to be too fragile for this to work.
I think it would be more effort than its worth to be honest. The arms of the driver model are actually attached to the rein, which makes it even harder. You would need to make a fair bit of the kit interchangeable (with magnets or whatever) to make it possible. I would just buy two if I were you, especially since they are such cool models.
If you are intent on buying just 1, you do obviously get both mount options and in fact two different sides for the chariot (the lion one is lower and more open) I think you would be best off assembling two chariots, make the extra chariot body needed from scratch or spare parts and maybe go without the reins on one of them. None of the other kits for other armies have them.
if you use the low sides, and magnetise the lion cloacks as well as making the steeds interchangeable, then you can prxy them well enough

To make it even more tempting, Korhil can take a chariot as well.
I ended up buying three, one just for Korhil
