I've been trying to come up with ways to configure a Prince other than putting him on a stardragon, and other than going all-out magic and have Teclis, so far I got:
1- Low offense, Very high defense, mobile lone tackler:
Vambraces of Defense,
Biting Sword (just for magic attacks)
this dude is very hard to kill, but only 4 attacks, so he's likely to kill 2 models, which is barely enough to tie with being outnumbered and an enemy extra rank. anything more like a standard and he's guaranteed to lose CR. if you give him BSB then he's highly unlikely to run away, so he's a rocksolid tackler I think, what do you guys think?
2- Offensive on foot beast:
Vambraces of Defense
Radiant Gem of Hoeth (to get Lore of Beasts, default to Bear's Anger)
this depends on casting Bear's Anger on himself, 7 attacks, str 6, which should easily give 3-4 kills (3.8 average on T4 or lower). since he's got ASF this takes care of defense pretty much, nothing left to hit back. However, having Bear's Anger cast successfully is the big IF.
is this really viable?
1- Low offense, Very high defense, mobile lone tackler:no point to low offense. FOr the point cost, you should get another unit of your choice (SM, WL, PG, WLchariots)
Vambraces of Defense,
Biting Sword (just for magic attacks)If you select a magic weapon, you have to use the magic weapon - this is a terrible choice because str4 won't do anything for you. If you really want magical attacks, get the sword of might <cheap> or White Sword <expensive>
For a mounted prince, I'd usually do something like this
Sword of Might, Tekmakadors gauntlets Radiant gem of hoeth and full kit (barded steed, shield, dragon armor if you want the extra drain magic and 5+ward/dispel die combo.
The helm of reroll and guardian phoenix are also good combos with your favorite magic weapon or what have you. Amulet of light if you want magical attacks
For a non-mounted character - 2+save armor, Guardian phoenix for protection, and then you have 50 pts for either the reaver bow or radiant gem of hoeth. The only reason to put him on the ground is so he can carry a great weapon and get the str6 attacks. Even so, He'll probably take more hits than he'll give.
A little advice
Leadership 10 doesn't matter if the enemy causes fear and outnumbers.
Never count on a spell to do anything for you. Esp. Bear's anger. I've only ever seen Bear's Anger go off once. You have to either roll 12 on 2 dice or have the opponent roll snakeeyes to get it off because the opponent will know when it's coming and dispell it everytime.
you might want to try the armour of heroes, or the armour of stars. if you combine it with the guardian phoenix, a starlance(or other magical weapon)and a great eagle, you'll have a really fun character to play with
don't know if it will be really competative, but it will really be something your opponent won't expect, giving you the advantage from the beginning
