Welcome to Librarium Online!
I guess this question has been asked before, but I tried to search the forum and couldn’t find anything.
What are your thoughts on Lion Chariot vs Tiranoc chariots?
The point different is pretty big, you almost get 2 Tiranoc for the price of one Lion Chariot.
I have heard so much mixed reviews, so I would like to hear your opinions.
What do you usually play and why?
The Tiranoc chariot is a nasty machine, and is well capable of keeping up with our infantry, so is best served as being an infantry support unit. The fact that you get almost 2 for 1 Chracian chariot is a well made one - two chariots hitting an enemy unit is normally devestating enough on impact hits.
However the Lion Chariot has its uses - for starters, it DOESN'T balk at charging nasty fear causers, and with that many S5 attacks, it will be very difficult to prevent from causing damage to the enemy - even heavy cavalry like Empire will be saving on 3+, and subject to a large number of S5 attacks on teh charge, as well as being faced by a Fear casuer. I would heartily advise bringing these boys to the table when facing demons, Undead etc...
mounting a character on a chariot immediately makes it tougher against most enemies and a viable flanking unit as it has US5...
In my cavalry army I usually run 2 tiranoc and one lion.
If I were to just have a points for 2 tiranoc or one lion, my head would say that 2 chariots is the better call, but my heart LOVES the model for the lions.
There you go, me and Kithre have both responded and NO actual answer yet...
LO is brilliant...

What did you expect from a couple of Mancs answering your question lol
(I'm from Macnhester - just converting into a southern softie at the moment...)
I prefer the Lions. With fear, ASF, and great weapons they can do some severe damage and mow through flanks. Plus, they're giant lions man. Giant lions. That should answer the question right there.

In my opinion, one of the biggest issues (or maybe is it some sort of advantage?) about the Lion Chariot is that could become a ranged weapons magnet, while perhaps Tiranocs would manage to go a little more unnoticed. Let's say that if I fielded a Lion Chariot I wouldn't expect it to last long, but I'd expect my other units to suffer less shooting. Just my personal thoughts about that.
I take one of each. They are both really cool but I typically find the lion chariot much more worth it. I tend to roll badly for impact hits, with the tiranoc it becomes useless but the lion chariot is still throwing out 6 s5 attacks which is nuts. Also, as mentioned, it is immune to fear by causing it and if you are in a combat, anything will need a fear check to charge you.
It is very fragile for its points, but hell the entire army is fragile for their points. It can easily stay in the shadow of a unit and be protected from any shooting except maybe a wayward guess range weapon. With a 16" charge, it can be in combat turn 2 if you want. Sometimes I find it useful to double team the tiranoc and lion chariot and charge them forward against the most threatening thing trying to at least kill a bunch of them if not break through, things like large units of heavy cavalry or maybe even a soft target like gobbos or slaves to get stuff behind the lines and worry him. Trust me, the last thing your opponent expects when carefully putting his heavy cav 12" out of your infantry charge range is to see two chariots springing forth at them and decimating half the unit.
Personally Tiranocs Are Not Worth It. For 20 More Points You Can Get A Bolt Thrower, And Even If You Pull Of A Stunning Charge Thats No Guarantee That You'll Get Enough Impact Hits To Make It Worth It. It Cant Negate Ranks, Cant March, Does Very Little Damage Aside From On The Charge, And Is Very Flimsy. You're Essentially Gambling With 80pts. I Find Great Eagles Can Do More Damage, Have Infinately Higher Tactical Flexability And I Think They Cause Fear?
Basically, I personally have yet to see a convincing argument to use Tiranoc chariots. Lion chariots have their use, when you need a counter charging unit, and find yourself short of the points to field 10 / 14 Swordsmen or Lions.
Or if you need a fire magnet, and find yourself short of the points for a dragon.
