How do you deal with the black coach in low point games. I played one in a 1200 point game and it massacared the majority of my army. My opponent left him in range of his mages for the first turn or two so it could glut on dice and then sent it on its merry way. By the time it had magic resistance I was done for since our bolt throwers have great difficulty wounding it.
you cant give him the opportunity to absorb dice, I know that's easier said than done but if you just hang back and do nothing your gonna be in big trouble in the next couple turns, your gonna have to take the fight to them. A noble on a eagle with the star lance and talisman of loec works wonders on popping black coaches. More of a suicide noble but it gets the job done. Alternatively you could just make a more offensive list with a star dragon and dragon princes.
Agreed. Black Coaches are, lets be honest, a real pain to Elven armies because you can't shoot them and you can't use magic on them. Combat is probably the only way to go. Dragon Princes would definitely work, if you throw a noble in with them you've got a great little anti-Black Coach unit.
Also, something to notice: Black Coaches are expensive. If your opponent spent a boatload of points on the coach in a low point-cost game, that likely means that its the centerpiece of his battle plan. If you can take it out, his whole strategy likely comes tumbling down. Spare no expense in killing it. Although RBTs aren't terribly effective, multiple shots from your RBT batteries are statistically more likely to penetrate the coach's ward save than single shots.
Finally: Black Coaches are fast. Very likely, the coach will be well ahead of the shambling hordes of zombies and skeletons by about turn two (likely it will positioned on the flanks of your army). Use that to your advantage to potentially get a flank charge of your own on the coach with your cavalry. He'll have no support troops in position, and you'll have torn the heart out of his army before his infantry are in charge range.
at 1200 points, the elves abillity to counter it is greatly diminished. A DragonMage maybe?
My first thought here would be Static combat resolution, if it doesn't get the charge the best it can get is 5 combat res, so a unit of spears that generates 5 Static Combat Res will do alright and should kill it in 2 maybe 3 rounds. Being able to charge it with spears is going to be a challenge but hatred should help for getting it into the right position to be charged, you may have to sacrifice something to get it there, say a flanking unit of 5 or 6 swordmasters.
