Picture if you will, Malekith's Nagarythe army, just before the sundering. Rampaging across Ulthuan tearing up cultists and what not. Or, perhaps the army he had with him at the time of the Sundering itself. There are plenty of Pre-Heresy armies in 40K, why not a Time of Legends Army?
Naturally, I can’t find my Malekith book right now, and I have yet to read the next one, but I shall venture on…
The book describes Malekith's army as being made up of:
Super Sneaky Ninja Scouts
Rule outs from the Dark Elf book: Repeater crossbows, everyone is described as having bows. Because the Temple of Khaine had not been established, that rules out any Khainite units. There is some debate about when the Dark Elves started using cold ones, but I think we have to rule out any of the monstrous types as well.
High Elf rule outs: White Lions were created to protect the Phoenix King from the Druchii. Sword Masters were established later. Phoenix Guard could represent Malekith’s personal bodyguard, early versions of the black guard. Eagles never fought for the Nagarythe that I know of. Same with Griffons and Dragon Princes.
So here are my thoughts…
Eltharion on foot to represent a young Malekith. A Warrior and a mage.
Mages and nobles as… mages and nobles.
Spearmen and Archers (duh)
Or… Sea Guard, as they seem to fight in a similar manner to Dark Elf Warriors.
What do you think? Any input?
you should not cross-post. You have this on the Dark Elf page so unless you are looking for HE Time of Sundering units, you should close this.
Most High Elf players wont be reading the Dark Elf forums and vise versa. Since this list utilizes HE units, and I'm actually looking at using the HE book to represent this as a legal army, its posted here as I want input from HE players. Since this would represent the first real DE army, and I want input from DE players, it's in the DE forum.
I love fluffy armies personally, and a fluffy army that is competitive is even better. This may be troublesome because this restricts some of our real heavy hitters (Dragon Princes, Sword Masters, White Lions, Lion Chariots). How do you plan to run them?
Here is my opinion:
As far as your rule outs go, it says in the Malekith and Shadow King book, that the Chracians did in fact use axes, at the retaking of Anlec, the woodsmen of Chrace make use of Lion Chariots as well, so those units are in still. As for Pheonix Guard, they were always there, as the Guardians of Asuryans(spelling) shrine. The book also mentions Eagles, Dragon Princes and Griffons. All as mounts and such for the Elven Lords. No they aren't part of Malekith's army, but you can still use them and have them be from other nations, as the Elven Warhost often consists of warriors from all the Elven kingdoms.
The white lions would be there, but would not have the stubborn/bodyguard special rules anymore as they are not quite yet what they will become, that is how I would handle it.
I might drop the point price of a Tiranoc Chariot to go along with the fact that Tiranoc was still there, more prevalent, and their charioteers would be more in demand and more out there. Drop the price, but only for chariots that are on their own, not for those that are carrying characters.
So I'm really starting to get excited about the idea of doing Malekith's army right at the turning point before he gets burned in the Flame of Asuryan. What I need to do is re-read the tail end of Malekith and go pick up Shadow King. Right after my test on Friday. Oh, and there was some other Warhammer type book coming out the next day on the 10th...
Anywho- your input is very helpful. I do want this to be a legal army though. Simply because I know the urge to roll your eyes into your own skull when someone says the worlds 'homegrown armylist.' I'm toying with both the Dark Elf and the High Elf army books, but I do want to keep it simple.
Now Malekith subverted elves from ALL over Ulthuan, so it is concievable that the a small group of woodsmen could be included in his force. I don't know about Lion chariots though. I agree a couple of Tiranoc Chariots would be fitting. I'll pay full price for them though.
As far as models go, what do you think of:
Chariots - regular Tiranoc Chariots with DE charioteers.
Cavalry - Silver Helm horses with Cold One Knights on them. (Just the knights, there will be no lizards riding horses.)
Foot Troops - DE Warriors with HE shields and bows, DE swords and spears. (I may use wood elf weapons here.)
Ellyrian Reavers - No idea as I dislike both the Ellyrian Reaver and Dark Rider models. Whatever they are, they should look like early Dark Riders.
Shadow Warriors - Shadow Warriors
Bolt Throwers - What do you think, HE or DE models?
Mages and Nobles - Not sure, there will probably be a lot of converting.
Malekith - I'm gonna use Eltharion to represent a young Malekith rule wise, but the model will probably be custom.
Also, what were Malekiths colors? And what did the banner of Nagarythe of look like?
Thank you much. I appreciate your help.
One of the rule-outs you missed is the shadow warriors. These where created when most of nagarythe left ulthuan. The shadow warriors are the guerrilla warriors fighting their siblings when these chose to follow the witch king.
Shadow warriors are a absolute no-go if you ask me.

Historically, Malekith was a loyal servant to the Phoenix King right up to the moment that he murdered him, which was just moments before he tried to pass thru the Flame of Asuryan. The Phoenix King had entrusted Malekith with rooting out the cultists in Uluthan up until the point. I believe Morathi was more the figurehead of the renegades up until that point, which was part of the plot she and Malekith had hatched.
In the book 'Malekith,' he is aided by some very shade/shadow warrior type figures from Nagarythe. They helped him infiltrate Nagarythe durring his military campaign vs the cults. So I think having a unit of that type would fit pretty well.
GM JOE- a very good point sir.
