I've been considering the fluff for my army very seriuosly. Fluff is something that I find very fun about an army, and just using one of the book made armies always seemed to take away from the fun of WHFB. I've been considering these for a while, and so far have been very indecisive about which to choose so here they are:
Asuryans Chosen- The Templars of Asuryan, they were devoted indeviduals selected by Caradryan and by extension, Asuryan, to go throughout the Known World and spread his divine will.
Must units: Pheonix Guard and Caradryan.
Tor Yvresse Guard- Eltharions Warriors, they were with him in the invasion of Naggaroth and have stuck with him since. The only thing they hate more thatn Druchii is goblins, particularly those of Misty Mountain.
Must Units: Eltharion and Spearmen
Albreth's Sell-swords- Ex-soldeirs of Albreths fleet, thye work with the various elf merchants and tradesman of the Asur, insuring that they get their goods where they need to be.
Must Units- None, not much is said on them in the book.
So, what do you think?
I just love phoenix guard. They always have the coolest fluff, and I've always wanted to be able to field multiple blocks of phoenix guard. I always use them, simply because my noble house is based on an island near the shrine of Asuryan. The other options are cool, but I think that the image of a holy army, lead by the stoic phoenix guard and surrounded by the glory of Asuryan is one of the most majestic images ever. Throw in some dragon prince "paladins" and some sword masters and you'll have a shining army of gold and silver, advancing slowly but inexorably under cover of bolt throwers and bows crafted of beautiful elm and tipped in ithilmar. Lesser foes quaver in fear as halberds, swords and lances flash down upon them.
Yeah. That would be cool.
Where had this been mentioned?Albreth's Sell-swords- Ex-soldeirs of Albreths fleet, thye work with the various elf merchants and tradesman of the Asur, insuring that they get their goods where they need to be.
This above all; to thine own self be true.
This, is something largely made from my imagination but it does has its origins in the Army Book:
Page 9, Sites of Interests, Albreths Cove - Home of Sea Master Albreths Fleet.
Nothing else in the book has said anything aobut Sea Master Albreth, and I found this looking for anything that could let me have fluff besides just being a defender of Ulthuan (an idea which I loathe, sitting on an island while there is a whole other world to see, and we could never fight Skaven if we just sat on our island all the time). Anyways, I decided that if nothing else was said then Albreth must not be very important and he wouldnt mind if I used a few of his soldeirs for a mercenary army.
But if I do play the Asuryans Chosen, what do you think about instead of using Eagles, I use winged Phoenix Guard. This will be done by using a custom model probably made by champions from spearmen, and then sawing the wings off of Pegasus Knights. I've always liked Brettonian bits, so that would supply me with a few of those as well. What do you think?
