can anyone help me with what to get for a new army in the new rules?
Depends on the points you are playing but from what I have gathered from reading, playing next week, the number of casualties you suffer is huge so you really need large units.
I am thinking of 30 spears being my standard block, 15 being my infantry flankers, 20 for special infantry blocks. Dragon Princes are still good probably in units of 5 or 6, again to flank, 10 for Silver helms.
I think Tiranoc Chariots will have a place as well, they are very cheap special choices to add extra kills, Lion Chariots still a bit expensive.
We are going to struggle with monsters etc as we only have the 2 RBT's at 2000 pts, but they should be less prevalent in general.
Probably will need some form of mage as we apparently need to rely a bit on magic.
With the FAQ out, we probably just went up a tier or two. Sword Masters keep their Always Strikes First, and can reroll to hit if their inititive is higher, which most of the time is the case. I seriously suggest some of them, but Allonaire is right, there will be lots more bloodshed so Sword Masters need to be in bigger blocks, I would say about 12 is right. Lothern Sea Guard have just made it from OK to awesome in my opinion, because now they can shoot in two ranks, fight in 5 ranks (if they are 10 wide) and all get rerolls if we have higher inititive, which again is usually the case.Because of the 2d6 power dice, Mage-Spam is off the market, so I think its better to stick with one lvl 4 Archmage. Monsterous Infantry and just anything taller than a waystone is going to be a big problem, but thankfully the new FAQ has made us an Eite army, where we don't havto worry about the Duplicate Choice restrictions for our Rares or Specials. So, in my mind, 8th is looking good for hte Sons of Asuryan.
Lion Chariots may be expensive, but with a 4+ save + 2 S6 great waepon attacks + lions +IMPACT HITS = a SERIOUSLY mashed up unit (if you add Kohril you get an ustoppable killing machine - if he gets tha cherge that is)
