Sorry if this was already discussed, but I didn't see a topic on this.
In 8e, there are a few major changes that affect the viability of the LC:
- No longer auto-killed by S7 hits
- Crew now gets +2S from their GWs
- Crew now rerolls misses 99% of the time
Is it just me, or does this suddenly make the LC a very usable support unit in 8e? You still don't want to solo charge a big infantry block with it, but on the flanks or on the charge against a smaller unit it could be devastating. You get 1d6 S5 impact hits, then 2 WS5 S6 re-rolling hits, and finally 4 WS5 S5 hits at a nice high initiative. Even if you get charged, you are probably hitting first with 6 WS5 S5/6 attacks since charging now goes in strict initiative order, which helps the Lions out greatly. Add to that the fact that the LC is a multi-wound model and the synergy you get with the Lore of Life special attribute, and it gets better. Land a +2 or +4 toughness on it, maybe a shield of thorns and you are in serious business...
The Tyranoc got a buff with the new ASF rules as well, but nothing compared to what the LC gained. I might be brining 2 at 2,000 points regularly...
Agreed dude. Spearmen charge the front (fight in 3 ranks is decent) and lion chariot in side. SO powerful. But you want a secret formula? Guaranteed to break the most elite enemy unless they are stubborn? chariot infront, dragon in side.... incredible. And if you have the Stardragon powerhouse with prince with lance of caledor, dragon armor and something like tha....they r really screwed...
