Just looking for some thoughts on Silver Helms. Would you take them in a list? Why or why not? I have a box of 8 from my brother and they are in the process of being commission painted
Thank you in advance!

In 7th ed, SH were the poorer and less flashy cousin of Dragon Princes, who was also a less nice person and a lot dumber...
NOW - for a ranked unit you don't lose as many attacks, can afford 25% more of them and can negate ranks because of your ranks.
Silver Helms come into their own when fielded as a ranked unit vs DPs - a 6 frontage unit will get 13 WS4 S5 attacks, vs a Dragon Princes unit which will have a frontage of 5 - giving you 16 WS5 S5 attacks on the charge. SH are also carrying more wounds - so unles your opponent has nothing but flaming attacks, the SH will be just as resilient as DPs...
I think that in 8th Edition cavalry got nerfed down. You need too many to negate enemy ranks and the point costs are high. They may be better than dragon princes when ranked up (and i agree) but they still suck and so do the models.
in 8th the silver helms have their purposes. you should field them in a unit of 10+ though to be better than a unit of 5-6 Dp's.
If you field them with just 6-8, you'll have a bit strange but usefull unit.
I don't think you should use them as a main force, but as a really fast, take-care-of-anything-without-ranks unit.
With a charge range around 18" they can charge in the 2nd turn, or in the first turn if the opponent starts.
Though these points don't really make them stand out against Dp's, and actually they aren't as good at it.
but Dp's cost more points.... And more money...

The new DPs = the 4th ed DPs in character but with nicer horses and the cleaner lines of the 6th ed DPs
I have been using a 10 strong unit of SH in both rounds of 'Ard Boyz and they have been performing excellently. In my list they serve several different roles ranging from a distraction, to a charge absorber, to a missile troop hunter, plus a few more. As a caviat I also run teclis so in many of these roles they are running around with T7 and with their 2+ armor save can be hard to get rid of and can be quit deadly (in the semis vs skaven they killed a Hell Pit Abomination and then a unit of 6 rat ogres). As a distraction they draw lots of fire and are better able to survive most of it then my other units and they are great in the deployment phase as they allow me to place a sizable unit to draw several of my opponents units away from where I really wish to fight and are fast enought to reposition.
(FYI got first in the Prelims and 2nd in the Semis as a damnable slann refused to fail any Dweller's below tests)
Hey guys, thanks for the input. Thank you especially to those who have had success with them and shared their stories and tactics. I really want to use these models simply because they are a gift from my brother.
Thanks again, rep'd.
