Was thinking of trying a horde of 40 archers with a BSB and my lvl 4 archmage. Thats 30 str. shoots, with 20 stand and shoot and 3 ranks of close combat.
The rest of the army is following(2500pts):
Alith anar - in a unit of 13 SM
LVL 1 mage
Korhil Kitty cart
Think it could work?
In one word, no.
For 2 points more you get spears, light armours and shields... Our hordes should definitely be spearwalls IMHO. Plus you can't rely on archer fire to win games, it's just not HE.
My two cents,

I agree with loreseeker to an extent, yes the better option if you want a shooting horde is LSG but I wouldn't take normal spear elves as a horde, I have taken them 40 and 50 model size units but take them 6-8 ranks deep and use them as an anvil....
Our archers IMHO are better suited in units of 10 and prolly no more then 2 in a 3000 or less point army. The only army that benefits from shooting units of this size is tomb kings and that is because they can make them shoot twice a turn. If you want good effective shooting in your army take bolt throwers, you can fit 6 of them in less then 3000 point games and they are always considered a major ranged threat then archers.

Curse of Arrow Attraction is almost as good as very poor BS troops being able to shoot twice - over half range your archers are scoring 25% more hits, and under half range they are scoring 15% more hits. The odds get much better when you start to move and fire. The CoAA probably factors a 10% or thereabouts increase in all shooty units in teh High Elf armour. Certainly Archers SHOULD be less points.
An Archer horde is a lot less flexible than 2 units of 20, they cannot engage more than one target. You have 10 archers not shooting at any point in time. You don't have Light armour and shields, so lack any form of save, whilst you are only T3. Your troops lack combat pucnh as they have a low attack density even if horded up compared to say spears or two-hand-weaponed troops, and thos attacks, despite being I5 ASF are not going to cause much damage to a dedicated combat unit, who in all likelihood will be ranked and steadfast (eliminating your steadfast), horded as well or both...
