Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi there, just having a look through the spellbook and I noticed that the Flaming Sword gives you a +1 to wound for shooting as well as close combat for that turn. So I was just wondering if anyone has used it for their archers, cause lets face it with our pathetic S3 we often need 5's to wound so this would drop that down to a 4+. Anyone done it? Did it make much difference? This of course assumes that people take lore of fire.
Personally I like Lore of Shadows best for HE. The same thing can be done better with it, simple hex a big unit with the -d3 Toughness spell and then I focus my 50+ archers into that target. (archers make up all of my core points in a 2500 list) works wonders. Last week I killed 27 out of a 50 man horde of beastmen gors in one shooting phase. Making something that is T4 become T1 is awesome.

With as many scary monsters as there are out there, I do not think you can rule out fire as a decent lore for high elfs. I personally take life or high for my archmage but sticking fire on a second mage would not be a bad idea with the bonus against buildings and most monsters. I personally just take a flaming banner for one of those units but don't shy away from the fire lore. It's cheap and has decent range.

In a small game of about 1000 points i usually take fire. You can beat it for direct in your face destruction. Do a powered up fireball throw 6 dice at it and prepare to roll 3 for your number of hits
You can't beat High Lore re rolling hits when shooting. =D
Plus flaming sword, plus Lore of Shadows and you're laughing.
