Bit of a preemtive strike with this post but its always good to get the ball rolling early. Didnt hurt tombkings who had thier wish list running through all of 7th edition. Anyway, as with any wish list just throw up some ideas or wants in terms of changes to units and the book in general, as well as new things you want to see wether it be new characters, models, etc.
Il kick things off with some of the basic things i'dlike to see altered.
1) Firstly, across the board i'd like to see a slight reduction in points except for maybe hero and lords section. You can argue that ASF makes up for the cost of HE units but with 8th ed focused strongly around fielding massive units of troops, it is very difficult to do so with anything other than spearmen units, which in themselves are a tad expensive regardless of how many ranks get to fight.
2) Somthing that can decisively taken on units like the ghorgon and warsphinx/necrosphinx without having to become a mount for a hero/lord. Yes we have dragons, but it would be nice to put somthing into that gaping gap in the Rare section of the HE army. Even if it ends up being another dragon, or a giant white lion (not a fan of that idea, though a giant lion being lead by a white lion hunter type character would be good, bit like the ogre hunter).
3) A cavalry option in Core. In the last edition i realy wanted to do an all cavalry HE army only to find ...no cavalry option for core...devestated. Anyway, even though cavalry is no where near what it used to be with the move towards hordes and infantry, but it would add a bit of flexibility, even if they move Reavers and not silver helms to core.
4) Return of Ithilmar barding. be goodnot to loose movement for having barding again.
5) A new hero option and the removal of Dragon Mages. Dont get me wrong, i used to field one in 1000pts, along with 2 lion chariots which realy messed with people, but it always seemed a bit slapdash to me as far as hero options go. It allowed HE to field more dragons in an army than other, but in 8th, just give heroes the option to ride Fire Drakes and have done with it. Same with Gryphons.
There we go,just a few ideas/wishes/keep em comming.
I think the magic has to be changed for the 8th ed high elves.
In the fluff the High elves are one of the best magic races, and with the new rules they don't. (except for teclis of course)
Our mages are expensive as they are, and they die even easier. I would like to see some changes in the book back to the old style, where you cannot just use items but also can get an ability (don't know the name anymore...) but it made it possible to get a mage with both seer, and the silver wand. That could really make the Elves a top level magic race again.
And would make it possible to get the staff of solidity, and still have a mage that actually can do something.
(currently a Night Goblin shaman is more potent than our mage but it costs half the points.)
I would also like to see a new rare choice. A Warbeast with the possibility of a howdah would be cool, but i can't think of anything fluffy that would fit that role.
The wound that 8th ed stole from our RBT's should come back too.
I don't think our units should get cheaper. They are great, and we are paying for it. Anything less would throw the army off balance, and just make it a top tier-will allways win so friends won't play you again- army like WoC.

Byjugo's WIP Thread
I agree on the dragon Mage. It felt like "what can we throw in here."
I like the idea of cavalry as core, but I think our core needs more options in general. Just to vary the look if nothing else.
Bigger dragons. Ours are comparatively weak. And the option to run them without a hero mounted on them.
A second war machine option. The RBT is old as dirt and since when are elves less innovative the anyone else? Maybe they don't like gun powder but tell me they can't make an effing catapult or something. No.
Teclis is supposed to be crazy powerful. I'm thinking 10 inch blast templates.
Tyrion to not have to ride a dumb horse. Mount options or even dismounted.
The return of the maiden guard.
I'd agree that our units need to get cheaper. The elites were just about costed right for 7th when the chances were they were going to wipe out the opposing front rank and not have any attacks back but now that they're going to be dying a lot quicker we need more bodies on the table.
Core I think should go down by a point, Special by 2. Bolt Throwers probably need to come down by about 20 points considering what they do in 8th edition.
I'd like us to be able to run Tiranoc Chariots in units.
ASF I'm not sure about whether we should keep or not. I imagine we probably will as it's the unique thing we have but I think if it went with a corresponding points drop I'm not too sure I'd be too sad about it as long as White Lions & Sword Masters got something to compensate for carrying GWs.
We definitely need a boost in magic. It's ridiculous that long lived Elven mages who have centuries to spend learning magic aren't Loremasters by default. So I think there should access to Loremaster without going Teclis (especially since that means we don't get Loremaster in tournaments). I'd actually like us to get a special rule that says we get to pick our Lore before the game and don't have to put it on the army list (again, long lived Elves, centuries of study, what they're going to just learn 1 lore?)
I'm hoping that if we don't get either of the above, we get some sort of bonus to casting that isn't gaining extra power dice (since most tournaments seem to put a hard cap on 12 power dice total per phase rather than at any time)
A good way to represent HE magic ability would be is they gained an extra spell that thier lvl would normaly allow, without items (or drain magic free spell). It would mean:
-Lvl 1 has 2 spells
-Lvl 2 has 3 spells
-Lvl 3 has 4 spells
-Lvl 4 has 5 spells
So all you need is Silver wand on a lvl 4 to have 6 spells, generaly a Loremaster.
Tiranoc Chariots in units sounds good. Very similar to Tks now they dont have light chariots, and they would not be a rarity like you would expect with the lion chariot (i mean how many chariots do you realy expect to see pulled by lions?), as they come for a region known for thier horses, its likely they would be able to field enough numbers to warrent whole units. The only problem may come from GW deciding they wouldnt do it because it might mean people asking for command sprues to be made for them , in which case GW would likely scrap the idea. (Lazy)
anew war machine would be nice, as has been mentioned by Attemptedm. For anyone who has read the Malus Darkblade serries (yes DE but probably the best books i have ever read), there is a mention of (somthing like) Dragon fire globes, which are fired/thrown by dark elf war machines. Basicaly napalm in a glass vial. I dont think it would be too far fetched to have a small balista introduced to the special/rare section. Flaming, maybe have to suffer at only S2 template, with an added effect which makes them worth taking, somthing like a unit hit by it (after initial damage) must take a panic check like suffering a hit from dragon fire. Maybe better to give it a prelonged effect like in the following turn (begining of opponents turn) the unit burns for another D6 S3 wounds etc. somthing different anyway.
I like ASF. Its no longer the maker and breaker of HE like it used to be, and without it units would need a very significant points drop. Most other armies (especialy the later armies) have an ability to improve thier fighting prowess above the baasic statline. DE with Hatered, Warriors with MoC, Skaven with Strength in Numbers, TKs with My Will Be Done, Brettonian Blessing of the Lady, O&G to a less extent with Animosity or Waaagh!, Beastmen even have Manbane. The only thing that may happen is that ASF is limited in some way to being within range of a character. But personaly i hope they leave it as it is.
Model wise, and i dont know how many of you would agree, but im happy with new 2 part spearmen exactly as has been done with the LSG. The models look amazing and i'm using then as spearmen at the moment cause i hate the current (old spearmen models). It also means GW can afford to put more than 10 in a box for less than £20 (PLEASE!!!). If you want people to make hordes then you can afford to loose some of the individuality of some models, mainly those that will be fielded in massive numbers like spearmen. For anyone who has seen/has the new LSG it also creates a real uniform unit, somthing that HE at least IMO should try to look like.
I'd really like to see a point drop in Dragons and Griffons. A dragon costs nearly twice as much as other armies monsters, and has to have an expensive character put on it.
Fluff wise, riderless dragons are just no go, and i'm cool with them only being a mount, but make them cost effective.
Nights Justice Space Marines
Eldar Eth Kariel Craftworld
Spear of Kurnous - High Elf Expeditionary Army
I'd like to see Griffon mounts for heroes or riderless Griffons. Unicorns for mounts for lords / heroes may be good. I think that Dragon mages should use the dragons toughness and wounds like characters on great eagles do. That way we would see more Dragon Mages flying around battlefields.
I suppose they could always bring back the fly up high type rule that used to be ing the game for flyers. let the flyout of the range of war machines etcone turn then come down anywhere they want next turn. I would certainly make them worth thier points but i think you would still end up sat for a turn before you could do anything else, unless you could charge when you landed. Bit too much though or dragonsand other flyers would just dominate killing war machines etc.
I think Griffons in general need a unique special rule just to make the stand out as more than a beefed up eagle. You look at the Manticore and although a griffon has slightly better Ld, the manticore also benifits from Killing Blow and Poisoned attacks, as well as being frenzied (i see it as a benifit as whenever i used to use a manticore for my DE it frenzied just when it needed to and never did me wrong). So it causes Terror... still needs more. Killing blow would be good considering the size of its beak. Maybe Magic res,or dare i say it (and i spit on myself for doing so) regen on a 5+ or somthing. I would even be happy with a new rule entirely.
As for the Dragons. I fear they will continue to be prone to TLoS until a new model is created. I dont mind how the current one looks, but is is massive and im starting to lean towards the old stand up metal dragons for when i get round to buying a HE dragon.
Someone was mentioning about Maiden Guard being brought back into the book. At the moment i could only see it happening with a shift of 2 units into the the Core section of the book, the obvious choices for me being the Reavers and Silver Helms. I just think with DP in Special there is no need for Silver helms in Special, and Reavers are simply not special enought to be Special IMO.
Back to Maiden Guard. What kind of abilities did they have/would you give them to make them worth going in the book. one bonus i could see is that it would open the Rare section to treemen (hush woodelf players, there are treemen in Ulthuan aswell). Its a little lazy if thats how GW fill are lacking Rare section but it certainly brings a nice bit of punch to HE. You could even go as far as to include a treeman (bought as rare) inside a MG unit like Skinks and Kroxigor for Lizardmen.
I have had some thought on the rare and maybe its an oppertunity to expand on somthing in HE background and mentions (including rules for) in the BRB of Sea Monsters/Leviathans. Basicaly "Sea Creatures" as described on Pg 75 of the Mini BRB, it gives us our big cataclysmic creature on par with Warphinxes and Arachnarok Spiders and opens a whole box for special abilities. Nice to theme with Sea Guard or even a Caladore list. So it cannot march on land...it would still be awsome.
