Hi all this is probley going to sound like another stupid question but here it goes
Can I put a unit of 50 LSG in 3 ranks 2 ranks of 20 and 1 rank of 10 at the back at the start of the game and shoot while my opponent advances towards my army and then when they get close enough can I reform them into a unit of 5 ranks of 10 (hord formation) read for combat.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to your comments.
Yes you can reform in your movement phase during any turn. If you have a musician in the unit you may take a leadership test. If passed you may make a 'swift reform' (rulebook page 95) which means you may rearrange your formation, move normally (but not march) and still shoot, but at the normal -1 to hit because you moved. If you fail the test then you reform as normal and may not shoot or move (page 14).
With regards to the formation you can be in, the only incomplete rank can be the rearmost rank. By that I mean that if you had 49 LSG the rear rank MUST be the one with 9 in it whilst the others had 10. Other than that there is no restriction on how wide your unit can be. I've played against units of goblins 25 wide and 10 deep.
