I agree something needs to be done, but any dramatic cut in price would detract from the elite feel of the units I think. Perhaps a special rule specifically for these units that means that the enemy can't replace the models killed in the front ranks like was the norm before 8th ed, this could represent the elves using their superior skill and coordination to coordinate attacks and kill foes before they get a chance to strike.-Corrigan

I don't think that Swordmasters or our Elites should really get any sort of price reduction, or that the SMs or Lions should be immune from strikes back. It bogs the rules down firstly, but secondly, Elves are a strategic army - they won't go toe-to-toe with someone if they can't win. Swordmasters are flankers. Yeah, they can hack down a few times their number, but eventually they're going to be overwhelmed. I'd like the see a boost to the survivability of White Lions, with the cloaks giving them +1Sv in combat (+2 in shooting) or +1T.
The Phoenix Guard need a lot of work, right now they're the least viable of the 3 major Spec Infantry choices. Spiketrap, have you checked out Stahlfield's armybook ideas? They're built off a lot of the stuff in the early pages of this thread.
I am not offering any comments regarding the Banner of the World Dragon at this time. For my thoughts on the situation, please refer to the following scene from vintage film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYiv76qRCkA

I was thinking about our mages being supposedly incredibly disciplined perhaps they should have the power to 'Earth' any wild magic.
Basically if a irresistable force is rolled by an elf mage, the elf player can choose to voluntarily dispel the spell and in exchange does not need to roll on the miscast table, perhaps even ending the magic phase completly.
In my book Sword Masters are presently overpriced T3 and 5+ armour save means they die in droves. They get a lot of St5 attacks but step up rule makes this of limited use against many units (not all admitedly). I think to keep the 15pts of the Sword Masters I think enemy units should be at -1 to hit them with shooting.
Devestating Charge for Silver Helms would be very good.
I think Pheonix Guard are pretty good. I6 means they almost always re-roll to hit and 4+ ward save is very tasty.
Spearmen are an interesting unit, their St3 T3 5+ armour save is very frustrating. As although they hit alot they don't really kill alot and they also die in droves. An option to give them HEavy armour would be nice. Or even allow them to use swords and shields to get a parry save would be passable.

Spearmen i think are doing fantastic, they could just use a minor point reduction. Any buff spell on the spears or debuff on their opponents makes them destroy.
Archers need an absurd point reduction. 11 points to fling a str 3 hit at something is just not acceptable any more. They simply have no role anymore, apart from point denial when they hang out in the back. Personally, i would give them a special rule to make them worth 11 points. Either a way to gain rerolls to hit, no penalty for long rang, or double tap would be bad ass. Either of those would reflect the super elite/well trained nature of the HE.
Sea guard, i think are all right. I would probably give them a special rule like no penalty for stand and shoot. Its kind of their job, to shoot, stand and shoot, and then stab people to death when charged.
