quick question about high elf white lions(the ones with GW's) what happens when the strike in combat, i know they have always strike first but great weapons have always strike last... do they cancel out and the lion strike at I value? and do they still get hatred?
For High Elves no, because we have 'Speed of Asuryan' which states that even our GWs will strike first. So our White Lions and Swordmasters (as well as any character with a GW) will benefit from ASF at Ini5 (better for characters) and will get all of the rerolls where the apply. This reroll is not Hatred though (and Shadow Warriors are the only High Elves who actually have Hatred), it's actually just a bonus for having ASF and an initiative that equals or beats your opponent's - you will reroll hits in these cases, in every round (better than first-round-only bonus for Hatred).
Typically however, a model with ASF and armed with a Greatweapon will strike at Initiative order, rather than striking last. This is only true for other armies however, and is one of the reason that our opponents are so terrified of WLs or SMs.
Also - what role are you fielding WLs in? Usually Swordmasters are your better bet, unless you plan on fielding a regiment with 4 ranks or more.
im actually looking to counter them because i play dwarfs how good is their survivability to shooting?
Because of their White Lion Cloaks, they get an extra point of armor to all shooting attacks. So they have a 5+ AS in CC, 4+ to shooting.
Yeah, you are better off killing them with magi... right, nevermind.

i think organ guns might do the trick nicely -3 to armour= no save for the white lions.... still im very unsure about the magic element of high elf armies i know i have a lot of things to stop magic but it seems all you need to do to change the game is get one irresistable force off and with that magic item that will be nearly every turn.
