Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm going to play a 1,000 point game vs. Dwarfs this weekend, and I was wondering if someone could help me come up with a nice roster. I have absolutely no idea what he will be using, except for about 10 Thunderers.
I have played 2 or 3 games with my HEs, and lost all, so a beginner I am, and help would be appreciated.
What I have at my disposal:
1 Mage/Commander @ Horse
8 Silver Helms
I was thinking something like:
Commander @ Horse who rides with the 8 Silver Helms,
Mage with a FoK and CoAA who goes with the 16 Archers,
And all the 16 Spearmen by themsleves.
+ some Items, thus using everything I have.
But help and tactics would be appreciated.
A basic list, but it could work.
COAA will work a treat against thunderers as I believe you do have a slightly better range than they would.
Your spears should eb able to absorb and dwarven charges, or be a nice anchor unit to tie up dwarves to the front as your silver helms gallop into a dwarf flank.
Make sure that you target his war machines (eg. cannons, stone throwers, etc) with your own magic if at all possible, without exposing your own mages to shooting. They can be a game winner for dwarves. Magic can also help you to thin down his blocks of warriors / crossbows too if he has any.
Anyway, hope that this helps a little, good luck with the game!
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.

Thanks, I'll try to use this as much as possible.
Also, what about this for a Borderpatrol (I'll be facing Dwarfs and Skaven):
1 Commander @ Horse,
IMO Seaguards aren't worth it. I don't know if they work better in Border Patrol, but I'd go for spearmen as anchors or achers for missile support. You could use any leftover points for Magic Items for the commander. If you play Dwarfs a lot I also suggest that you get some reavers to sack his artillery. They'd also be useful against heavy armoured dwarfs, especially ironbreakers, as they can charge them in the rear and thus win the combat on combat resolution. 'Cause lets face it, elves cant stand toe to toe with dwarfsAlso, what about this for a Borderpatrol (I'll be facing Dwarfs and Skaven):
1 Commander @ Horse,
They didn't, either. I lost, oh how I lost!
I killed his Ironbreakers, but the other things were too good...
Also, I played a 1350 pts game today vs. Chaos. I killed 1 of his stupid horse-thingies, and he managed to drive my army out the edge... The battle was over in turn 3. Let's just say I had a bad day when it came to Ld...
