Hi all, just converted to WFB after a year of 40k, I decided to start a High Elf army but was wondering why no one seems to use Lotharion Seaguard *sp*. Ive read a few of the new to High Elves threads and most of the starter armies use spears, bows and cavalry for there cores. The seaguard seem like a good unit on paper, able to Shoot and Hth so whats wrong with them? Any help is greatly appreciated as i just bought a highelf warrior box set and was planning to model them into seaguard and id like to know if this would be a mistake,
Cheers all (Y)
The problem is that they are very expensive spearmen. And yes they do have (normal-, not long-) bows, but unless used as stationary troops on a hill, you wont get much for their points in the shooting phase.
You are usually better off buying a more specialised regiment like archers or spearmen.
Green is good
Ahh ok i see, so the specialised troops give you more bang for your buck, OK in that case what size units should i be looking at fielding? im thinking , spears bows and cavalry, how many of each and how many in each cheers
Am I wrong, or has the Sea Guard received nothing but nerfs since the Ravening Hordes? Let's see.
These are the advantages of RH Sea Guard in comparison to the current ones:
free shield, can take Heavy Armour, shoot in two ranks
And yet the price hasn't changed at all.
Archers received the same kind of treatment: they lost Shoot In Two Ranks with no compensation and the cost stayed the same.
Cheers to the idiot of a designer who made the HE Army Book
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
covers pretty much all newbie questions.
I use blocks of 10 archers (1 regiment in my 2k armies)
20spears (1-2 in 2k)
5-8 Silverhelms (with commander)
full command in the combat units.
Green is good
Teron, I agree with you completely there. Hopefully the infiantry will get some kind of update or be better next edition.
Archers, 10 strong with no upgrades. Not many units.
Spearmen, 20 strong with all upgrades.
Silver helms, 5 strong as flankers. All armour upgrades, command is up to you. People say the banner makes them expensive but I find it useful.
OK thanks to you all for your advice, Hope to be asking you all more questions later,
