Are RBT's volley ability really worth that many points. I mean, a dwarven bolt thrower is less than half the cost, and a 1-2 special choice, the only difference being the RBT's volley ability. I mean, how is volley that amazing. People say its used for taking out horde units, but it won't deal more than 1 more wound than single bolt. I'm probably missing something as our moderator at our shop says they are a steal.
i would agree with him, 100points, i think they are a steal, as well as being 1-2
if they were special choices, i think we would see a lot more elf armies out there lol
6 shots at no minuse is amazing, it doesnt just deal with horde units if deals with anything basically, S4 armour piercing, kills knights ive seen
i dont think ive actually seen a high elf player use the single bolt option over the multiple one lol
Consider Elven Ballistic Skill, plus the fact that you get those 6 volley shots without buying archers. Also consider the fluff, HE are very outnumbered, whereas Dwarves kick-out warmachines at the speed of heat, plus, compare the Dwarf cannons with an RBT. Which would you rather spend 100pts on?
They do seem overpriced when compared to the Dwarf ones (those can get runes as well) but when you try them in battle they are very effective. As mentioned, good BS and damaging armour plus the amount of shots means you can aim them at pretty much anything and hope for a kill or two. Also compare one bolt thrower to 10 archers (only slightly more expensive) the thrower will probably do more damage in a turn or two than the archers will do the whole battle.
Yep, but then again, RBTs don't suck, Archers do
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Volley is the way to go, or at least that's what I've experienced. In a 500 p game, a single one will ruin the day for your oppnentn with just a little luck. I've had half an orcish horde flee before it. Chariot + 16 man-boyz-unit killed, the rest was quite nice to see. I think that the options given by having the ability to use volley is also part of its greatness. Your opponenet can never be sure what it will do, and its role can always chande during the battle. First round: Need a knight-kebab? Fine! Second Round: Need to kill that one-rank-fast cavalry? Consider it done! Ah, I just love it!
i agree the bolt throwers great but i would rather spend my one rare choice in a 1500 point battle on 2 great eagles now they rock. the volley is definately worth the extra points i hardly ever use the bolt ive averaged it and on most things the volley kills more. Its only real drawback is its a rare choice. now in a 2000 point battle 2 eagles and 2 RBTs
No.... but i've seen a dark elf one done it in a feeble attempt to kill my blood dragon (he failed... even got his highborne killed)i dont think ive actually seen a high elf player use the single bolt option over the multiple one lol
I have used 1 bolt thrower in a 500 point army and it tears through chaos warriors with ease!
I am getting the new plastic bolt thrower, and was wondering if any one had some conversoin tips.
The RBT is amazing due to the fact it basicially has 6 handgun shots at bs 4 and a 48" range
the reason no one uses the single shot is because we can have a prince on a giant eagle and bow of the seafearer
Btw: can the volley shots pierce ranks aswell?
