Ok...so I was thinking about having a Spartan (Ancient Greek) themed army with the plumes on the helmets and everything...this would basically be used on the Spearmen, because they are the only units without adorned helmets...
So...tell me what you guys think...if you guys have any ideas on what colors I would use (I know they were big on red) but would that go with white and gold?

Dirty silver or bronze for the helmets, they used a lot of bronze but like gold it tends to look a bit strange when used in large amounts, and yeah red for the plumes.
How are you going to make the helmets? Its a great idea, ancient greek or roman armies would look great. Make sure you post pics.
Oh yeah, didn't they use large round shields as well?
I think that you should use the Chaos Mounted Slaanesh Lord head - avaliable on GW mailorder...it's got a quite "Ancient" look, with a great plume and Y-patterned front. Take a look!
For colour scheme I suggest - hawk torquise! shaded with jade green and high-lighted with ice blue it is verry "marine" and fit the elves really nice...
Try red robes, with a white shield. Quite a striking combo.
Elves, aside from pike men probabley are the most capable army of representing the phalanxs of the SpartiansYes, please keep us updated :yes:Make sure you post pics
Only a few prefer liberty - the majority seek nothing more than fair masters
How I planned on doing the heads was to somehow round off the tops of the helmets, and then make the plumes with green stuff...
And when or if I actually do this, I'll be sure to post some pics...
The Swordmasters also have plumed heads. And the Phoenix Guard. But i think it would be easier to use green stuff on Archers heads to make helmets, rather than trying to file the Spearmens ones.Originally Posted by greek_dude

My suggestion: watch Gladiator with Russel Crowe. That was all set on Rome and their soldiers, and has quite a variety of weapons. The Romans liked to use "Tower shields", huge rectangles that they could put next to each other to form a wall against arrows, which was very useful. Then, when the enemy ran out of arrows, they would stick spears between the shields, so that when the enemy charged many would be slaughtered on their own weight. For color scheme I suggest a leather brown, as leather armour was popular since it provided decent defence and excellent mobility, without using precious steel. They liked eating beef, so plenty of leather was available, and steel is much better used on swords, shields and helms, along with spear and arrow tips. Another movie to watch might be Troy, but I haven't seen it so I don't know if that is accurate-ish.
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
What about converting these guys? http://uk.games-workshop.com/dogsofw...ure-gallery/3/TRIARII!Originally Posted by strewart
Actually, that gives me an idea. Slap some feathers onto the helmets, make the bottom of the shields square to match the top, and use a red paint scheme, and you've got a decent Triarii right there. (On the Elven spearmen that is)
