I dont play hight elves (im might be soon though&#33 But i do have the army book so ill contribute:

I think i would use them, there IMO better that phoenix gaurd, and way better than great eagles, so they have only really got to compeate with the eagles claw bolt throwers. The fact that the pack a whack at streanth 6, and are STUBBORN when with the general means the can swipe through the enermy. In fact i reckon the only reasen they might not be widely used, is the fact that thee metals, which are expensive to atcually buy (£2 EACH) , and they have a fairly high points cost.

Do you think i should start high elves?? If so any advice?

Whithe lions aren't used much because they die very fast
The bodyguard rule isn't very good because of Intrigue of Court
And you lose a rare slot you could use for eagles/RBT

@ Spike_alike
I think eagles are very good
They fly 20 inches and are only 50 points
Nice to stop march moves
kill warmachines
Kill mages etc.

Im not saying eagles are bad. Just being a dwarf i prefer solid blocks of men rather than individual thingys

I would take white lions only if you could take full advantage of there special rules: woodsmen, body guard, cloaks... I prefer swordmasters because even though they only have a 5S (haha, only) they have heavy armour, dont strike last, and are a special choice not a rare.

Well, if you can fit them in your army after taking RBTs and Eagles, you might want the White Lions for doing something nice, like having 10 of them march into a wood on the table, and just sit there. Either the enemy must avoid the wood. Or he can charge it, and you flee, leaving him inside or just facing a wood. Or, he could just not worry about it and get charged by these madmen.

But, IMO, the Rare list goes like this, most useful at the top:
RBT/Great Eagle (they are both insanely useful in their own respects)
White Lions
Phoenix Guard

im not too sure, white lions when i looked at them seemed like in somecases as gotcheese said could be very useful, but only if their special abilities could be put to full use.

I've thought about this and had a discussion with Slai about it on chat. And I've thought about using them but the fact they strike last means their potentional is slightly lowered. They are good and as Slai said in a wood they can cause a nasty suprise, but I'm more worried about the second round of combat.

Say the WL are charge and kill a few, and a couple is killed in return. If they don't break and run, you then have to endure attacking last and at T3 it's not something you will look forward to. There is a bigger chance of you losing more men then they do, but then again with the high S they do pack a punch. So I'm in two minds, but I would definatly take WL over PG any day.
