hey i was just wondering what is your opinion on lots of magic
I think HE magic is better used defensively, with spells like drain magic and the rule that we get 1+ to all dispel rolls it seems clear (to me) that that was the intended use of HE magic.
Though of course, since we can take any of the 8 lores as well and have a couple of great bound items available, magic heavy is quite possible too. I don't like it though, because magic is unreliable and HE mages cost a lot of points.
agreed best only used in supporting roll using high magic or meatal however if you need the extra kick then the lore of life is the way to go
that sed usally i take one as a scroll caddy with silverwand as then he gets off some spells too
"take my love, take my land, take me to where i cannot stand, i don't care i'm still free you can't take the sky from meee" ;- firefly
"i'm gonna grant you your greatest wish i'm gonna show you a world without sin" ;- serentiy
"I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar" ;- serenity
High magic is great. I'm not going into detail because the question was horribly vague, but 6 lvls of magic and both magic rings produces a very potent magic phase for very little points cost.
The Hierarchy Chaotica: Kinky Sex > Change > Disease > Blood
98% of the population actually believes these stupid statistics. If you're part of the 2% of humanity with a brain, put this in your profile.
high elf magic was meant to be defensive (look at their lore) but gw didnt do such a great job at it, as it is easy to go offensive in magic.
I use a lvl 4 and 2 lvl 2s...and i always follow the same kind of general setup.....
the lvl 4 takes a damage lore: heavens, fire, death (depending on the opposition)
the lvl 2 takes a supportive lore: heavens, fire or high (heavnes if i want a reroll or a thunderbolt, fire if i want a cheap MM, or high if i want magic defense)
and my seer lvl 2 ALWAYS takes a CCOMBAT lore: Metal or Light (Dazzling Brightness, Blinding Light, Transmutation of Lead, Bane of Forged Steel are PRICELESS) Ull know what i mean when you charge wardancers with a chariot and have the horses hit on 3s.
lvl 4 + 2 lvl 2s + 2 rings + jewel of dusk + banner of sorcery = one f**k of a magic phase.
high magic is in my opinion one of THE best lores there are, you have damage spells, spells that improve our RBT's and one that will nullify magic items, everything we need!
ad a mage with lore of metals or heaven (that rerol is just so sweet: oh i roll a one for imapct hits, now it's a 6)
combined with HE magic items we can build a very, very powerful magic fase, and can counter one as well.
Although i do think you do not need to let magic dominate the field, ift can be very useful, but we have some nice combat units (sh, sm) who can deal quite some damage.
make a balanced list, then you can face everything
That's just pushing it. 8 levels and magic items. You are looking at between 12 and 14 PD. Worse if you add one or 2 or the rings. That's just too much. I tend to take no more then 4 levels these days and the jewel or the banner. Not both and no rings. Otherwise magic just controls the game and that's just no fun.Originally Posted by Lord Anathir
i use in my 2000 list two lv 2 mages with a DS, JoD and Ring of Fury.
i find that it can mke asn impression (or hole) in the enemy line, bit also ads some defense, otherwise i use the annuilian crystal, JoD, and a DS.
depends if i want to go a bit offensive or defensive.
Sylvester is right not to much magic, it spoils the game.
sylvester.... i dont have a choice judging by some of the lists i play against these days. ever faced a stank with high elves? two treemen?
what i dont understand is that no one complains when they see a VC or lizzie army with that much magic...why should high elves be any different? they are just as dependent on magic. the rest of the high elf list beside magic and the ability to take core heavy cav is absolute garbage...overpriced elite infantry, core infantry that has a defensive special rule but is too weak to accept a charge, combat lords have problem with thralls, honours that are too expenisve and leave that character without any kind of defense (and im not even including seaguard and phoenix guard). /rant
empire armies = heavy shooting
brettonian armies = heavy combat
tzeentch = heavy magic
why arent high elves = heavy magic ?!? they have all the right tools, the right fluff, and the horrible state of high elf combat characters really doesnt leavy much of a choice.
also i hope you dont think that i just sit back and roll comets all game...because i dont, i actually get into combat quite a bit.
