hey all i was just wonndering what you guys thought of a very magical army
Lame - cheesy - boring - risky (one trick pony, if the one trick fails the pony is dead)
Take your pick.
ahhhhh...... thanx........ i guess not exactly the reply i was hoping for
Depends on how magic heavy you go.. I mean, even if you go all out thats only around half your points in a 2k game. Still space to spread to shooting, infantry, cavalry or combinations.
Heavy magic is most commonly combined with heavy shooting for HE since some of our spells can assist shooting. It makes a reasonably powerful and good list, though not as strong as heavy cavalry.
I have found magic in general to be overpriced for what it gives you, and considering how fickle it is I wouldn't call it cheesy most of the time. Skaven magic can be extremely nasty though, and I guess if you took an offensive lore for HE it would be pretty good too.
Worth messing around with and trying, it can be a different approach to the game and a bit of fun, I personally wouldn't stick with it consistently though.
okay thanx a lot
I am sorry for reacting kinda harse. Magic heavy high elf armies are just kinda lame. Yes the do well most of the time but the problem is that it has nothing to do with warhammer anymore. Some opponents you don't stand a chance against others don't stand a chance against you.
After you make a list then think of how fun it would be to play against it. I mean imagine playing against a dwarven army with 2 organ guns, 4 bolt throwers and 3 units of thunderers. That's the equivilant of playing a magic heavy HE list. And with magic heavy I mean like 12 PD and bound items.
Personally I think 10 PD is magic heavy but I can still see that in a HE army. Don't like it but I can see it happening. Try 4 levels of magic and add a jewel of the dusk and 1 bound spell. Trust me you have plenty of magic then and still enough points to have a army that can actually fight.
Warhammer has 4 main phases - movement - magic - shooting - combat. If you overload on magic you kill 3 of those phases. The game will bebome no more then some dice rolls. You roll good you will you roll bad (or your opponent has too much magic resistance) you lose.
One word: BALANCE!!!!
okay and slyvester what you said makes sense so i wont do a totaly magic high elf army
high elves are a magical race. PERIOD!
a lot of people use this to take a lot of magic (in a 2k a Lv 4 and 3 Lv2 mages.)
i finfd that indeed a balanced list works the best.
HE have some nice infantry and cav (sword masters, dragonprinces)
this combined with RBT's makes a powerful combo.
get a few mages (2 or 3 lv 2 is powerful magic enough) with the rings as magic, this will let you rip through most enemy armies.
get a prince as lord, soup him uo for CC to assist you troops, then get someRBT's and eagles . use the rest to get speearelves, silverhelms and Sword masters.
hope it helps.

in a magic army you already have enough long distance with a few RBT's and those crap ful of mages.
better spend some points in a defensive line should the enemy reach you.
