I've just got another idea that I want to get some feedback on. The main disadvantage with the Lions are that they have weak save and strikes last - they do however have a fairly high initiative.
The thing is based on my lions taking the banner of ellyrion and a guardian with sword of might. The squad is 10-15 models strong and will function as a support/flanking unit. To this kind of unit (having crude save and striking last) the first round is the most important; if the enemy doesn't break - your stuck with them and frankly not in a good situation.
Well - here comes my plan: as support/flanking unit the enemy wont have that many attacks; no ranks and if cavalry; long bases...but they will still strike first - if I wont soften them up a bit with my guardian with sword of might. This gives him a little bonus to his allready (for an elf) high strength and weapon skill...
My question is: does this work?
Yes it will. I always give my guardian the sword of might when fielding WL. The flanking sounds good but it's hard enough to flank with cav let alone with infantry.
Finally giving them the banner of ellyrion is a waste of points unless there is difficult terrain other then forests on the board. The white lions already move through woods without penalty.
Anyway the guardian with sword of might can easily kill a opponents model in any rank and file. This will reduce the number of attack the opponent has and thus you will have more normal WL in the front rank surviving and being able to strike. It only costs 15 points and 1 STR.
hmm.. sword of might on teh champ, that's a good one, i might try it to.
as flank force wwhite lions are deadly with their moving through woods and high strength attacks.
problem is as elite troops your enemy will target them soon and so hide in the woods.
as said flanking with infantry is difficult especially with a unit. skirmishers are more handy in this.
hope it helps
