My book came good, shame about the panic checks!

Did a quick search and found the thread on the book of Hoeth from a few months ago.

Well i thought i'd give it a whirl today and i have to say that it worked wonders! I got flames of the phoenix off three turns in a row (opponent dispelled it at the end of my magic phase each time) with IR.

It killed a unit of gutter runners (well killed half of them and caused em to flee off the board) and mullered two units of clanrats, not bad i thought (even better when you consider the strength in numbers rule hehe)

Unfortunately the game came to a rather abrupt end when i failed four consecutive panic checks and on turn four i found myself looking at two RBTs a unit of spearmen and a unit of swordmasters, with the rest of my army having run for the hills!

The HE are famed for having amazing magic items, and i think the book of Hoeth is right up there with em. In fact, after today i think i will be taking it more often

What are other people's fave HE magic items? Any good experiences?

    Ciao

Yup. Us Elves are absolutely spoiled in the magic item department. Mainly our 2 bound spell rings are *wonderful*.

The book of hoeth is nice, but it may soon become obselete. 7th edition will make it much harder to get PD to your archmage.

Good point. But she still has 6 available to her even without any banners etc.

So when you've got FoP going off every turn i'm happy with that

Plague_00: I actually find the dragonscale shield kind of a waste, cause when is a 6+ ward save useful on a 2-3 wound model? uhm...3* 1/6 = 1/2? Maybe I should rethink my use of it...

The book is wonderful. My Favorite magic item, maybe in the game. Makes magic cheap but effective for HE! Lore of life, get lucky enough to get stone and woods spells, and you usually cast one or the other with irresistable force each turn. and you only need to use 6 dice to do so! Used this combo to smash an empire army, barely engaged in cc, just sniped the ranged units and marchblocked the rest!

small items are also very useful, the jewel of dusk is wonderful, adding extra PD.
but as said the rings are truly lovely *drool*

I know it's only a special character's weapon but surely tirion's sword has got to be one of the best weapons there is?

    yes yes yes

tyrons sword is (IMO) one of the best weapons there is. it ads quite some S and the boundspell is soooooooo nasty.
you can surprise you're opponent big time with it.
people don't expect a sword to be a bound item:shifty:
