New Player, New Poster, Looking for advice/help

Hi all, I am a new player looking for a number of things but mostly just advice from the seasoned veterans.
I have recently purchased a high elf army (not painted yet) which includes...
    2 Mage/Heroes/Lords/Whatever
    2 Chariots
    18 Silver Helms
    6 Dragon Princes
    40 Spearmen
    30 Archers
    4 Bolt Throwers
    1 Dragon
    20 Swordmasters
    15 White Lions

So I obviously have a good base to work with but I am wondering what additions would be recommended to round out the army. Also, I have played a few casual games with local store employees who know the game a lot better and I am getting a decent grasp of the rules however there is a 1,000 pt. tournament coming up next weekend and I would like a chance to truly compete against the more veteran players.
Also, just any advice in general would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the advice and opinions!
P.S. I was thinking of something fun like this for the tourney....

1 Commander-Steed, Barding, Lance, Dragon Armour, Shield, Helm Fortune
    5 Dragon Princes-Full Command
    2 Tiranoc Chariots
    12 Silver Helms-6x2-Full Command
    2 Bolt Throwers

    I think it's close to 1,000 points.
    Thanks again everyone!

    TYRION!!

Ok, in all honesty though, that really is a quite nicely rounded list with almost everything you need.

Though, to my chagrin, i dont see any ellyrian reavers in there!! Wheres the fast cavalry or flying units???

You will find that reavers or eagles are superb flanking units, great at getting behind and denying marches, harrassing war machine crew, lone mages etc....
    Almost a must have,

Apart from that, all you really need is tyrion and teclis....they are two of the coolest high elves around (and coming from a dark elf player thats something)

Nice list....i absolutely LOVE fast, cavalry type armies....my 1000 point army (DE) has 2 units dark riders, knights, chariots and 3 nobles on dark pegasii!!

Though the bolt throwers seem a little out of place because they will be left behind by themselves....you may be better suited with
    a) eagles
    b) ellyrian reavers (i know, i know, repeating myself)
    c) more nights and another hero lvl character....possibly a mage on horse??

    Hope this helps,

    Regards

Yeah I'd definitely add eagles and reavers to your list, and possibly a chariot or two. Up to you on that one.

And I'd say don't get Tyrion and Teclis, most special characters aren't really worth using in regular games..

Your 1k list looks fairly good, I'd probably change the commander to an eagle commander though. And maybe ditch the dragon princes for something cheaper, save those guys for larger battles. The bolt throwers will get left behind, but let em. You can still use them to shoot in the first couple of rounds at least, try to place them on hills if you can.

I dunno bout reavers... They're WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to expensive for 1000 points. Even for 2000 points I never use them... THey're so... pointless...

Well they are horribly expensive, but they are far from pointless. Fast cav are great, and ours are pretty fast. If only there was an option to drop their bows to save some points.

I still don't like them... I think Great Eagles do the job better, can fly, and are cheaper.

As far as I can tell, this is not legal. Unless your tourney plays by some special rules, you need at least 2 core units in 1000 pts. I think you mean you are fielding 1 unit of 12 silver helms, in 2 ranks with full command. If you in fact mean 2 units of silver helms, each 6 knights, then my apologies. I'd try to have a small ranked unit of silver helms, 8-10 strong.

I think the Dragon Princes are going to be flankers rather than primary offensive troops in this list, and as such probably don't need a banner, and maybe no champion.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you very much to everyone for all the support and advice.

Yeah, the eagles and Reavers are probably going to be my next purchases. Hopefully after I play some more I will be able to contribute positively to these forums instead of just asking for help.
Thanks again and I'll let you know how the tourney goes.....Also, if you have any other recommended lists or advice please let me know.
The tournament should feature 1/2 dwarf players, 1/2 dark elf players, ogre kingdoms, orcs/gobbos, empire, and some unknowns....
