I've come into contact with someone who may be trading his High Elf army away and I wanted to see whether his list is (a) legal in 1500/2000 (b) a half decent army and (c) worth the cost of £100+ given its a good winter style paint job.
Here is the list for consideration (i dont know points of High Elves so I hope that veterans on this forum will know in their heads!)
5 heroes (i believe they consist of 3 mages and a fighter on foot and a fighter on mount) - granted that info is a big vague but I assume that a variety of combos including special characters could be made with those 5 models.
2 units of 10 archers
2 units of 5 Silver Helms
1 unit of Dragon Princes
2 x Bolt Throwers
1 x Great Eagle
3 x Tirannoc Chariots
1 unit of 5 Shadow Warrior Scouts
Sorry again if the info is vague but I don't have the army book on me (its at home, I'm at work) but thats why I'm entrusting the aid of veteran High Elf players. However 2 more questions to ask:
(1) With the incoming revision to the HIgh Elves army book, is it wise to obtain an army now? I'm not too bothered about whether models are old or new, I can't paint to save my life so the good paint job here is a plus but will some units become obsolete?
(2) How would an army such as this one play? I'm guessing it focuses on shooting and mobility primarily with a good solid magic base..........wonder how it will do against Brets and the Slann.
Okay, the army as you have stated it is a good solid base. The Mages are useful and give good Magic. Archers are rubbish at the Mo but will be able to fire in 2 ranks in the new book (coming out November) which makes them much better. Silver Helms and Dragon Princes are great as are the Bolt Throwers and Eagle. Chariots are good in large numbers and shadow warriors will be better soon, also can fill the role of march blockers without taking a rare slot. Actually, the more I look at it, the more the army is a solid base. The only models that will be redone in the near future is the characters, chariots and possibly Shadow Warriors. The Army is quite fast ith a good fire base. shoot for two turns then out manovre.
Hope this helps,
Yeah that does help thanks. Although is it worth the £100-£200 that it might cost? And whilst been very fast, can small units of Silver Helms and a few chariots actually kill much, coz frontal charges seem like suicide!
Any other opinions? How many High Elves veterans does LO have?
