hey, i did a search and didn't find a threat on this yet so... for anyone interested in the zombie pirates army (appearing in WD 306)... how are you dealing with the conversions? for the uninitiated, practically the entire army list requires conversions. a great opportunity!
I would say making good use of the Empire Militia sprue, this has a load of bits and pieces that can be put to good use. Mixing with the zombie sprue, I find you'll get a great set of zombie pirates.
a few of the weapons, you wont find nowa days, when i discovered zombie pirates, i was uber excited, only to find out that they have discontinued the troops models. they had cool weapons and everything. but i think some of the older weapons models they made for this have been put into the new empire guys.
at least, that is what my local GW rep told me.
also, it is no longer a legal tournament army. since not enough people would buy it (like most of the awesome things that gw has created) they discontinued it. but it is still a fun army to play, and i would let my opponent play it any day!
yah, it doesn't bother me its no longer official, per se. im not really a tournament player. its just a fun army! ive been trying to think of ideas for the leviathan... maybe something based on a lizardmen model, e.g. salamander? there's def a lack of aquatic looking models available from which to start.
Do these pirates come with pirate looking tri-cornered hats? That would be a fun idea for a SM army.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LOOK AT MY BLOG!
Rep people if they help you!!!
Some of these guys may also come in handy...
OK... pirates do not really wear these robes, but the chests look pretty good for pirates. And look at the bearded heads... last but not least such a guy locked up in a big piece of wood...
Using one regiment of either 10 or 20 men and scatter the bits all over your army might be a good idea...

To do pirates you should add pirate-like stuff. Eye patches, parrots etc. Wooden legs would be easy. Also pirates are criminals so you could have a noose around the necks of a few, this would it make it seem as if they went to the gallows only to come back to life and continue pirating.
Pirates also hang about in the sea. Things that imply ocean etc would be good to include. Have seaweed hanging from them. Also search for small seashells to glue to thier bases. Seashells could also be made to look like horns for musicians.
I'm not sure what else is in the Zombie pirate army list. If there are things like sea monsters then looking at the Tomb kings Tomb scorpion might be helpful for making a giant crab. The Tyranids and various chaos ranges also include critter with tentacles.
One way to save money is to make them look like they're coming from water onto a shore- so the front rank is on sand or marsh, the second has parts of the legs underwater, the third rank has no legs, and the fourth is just arms sticking out of the water! You can get a whole rank with just spare arms!
If you think Mathammer doesn't work and dice cannot be predicted, there's a whole field of mathematics called probability that would like to disagree.
Pirate accessories --- Black Cat Bases...
There's some good stuff there (plus their rat swarms wizz all over the GW ones).
This might seem weid but a lot of pirateyness comes across in the trousers. Check out different paint schemes from different maunfacturers and you'll see what I mean.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
