Though fluff- and rules-wise, this aspect is hard to beat, the models are in desperate need of an update!
As I really want to include them in my eldar army, I have thought of a relatively cheap and, IMO, good-looking conversion:
as a base, I'll use Dark eldar warrior bodies, all those spiky bits will come in useful later
for heads, i'll use the ones from the Storm guardians
to make death spinners, I'll order a bunch of those dubble spinners for the exarch, cut of the barrels and attach them to barrelless warrior guns.
For warp generators, i'll just stick the seperate exarch one on their backs.
with smaller guns, I can arm them with combat blades similar to the exarch's power blades, using the gunblades and helmet decorations from the DE warriors.
to help you visualize it, here's some pics of the various bitz:
Games Workshop Online Store — Dark Eldar Warriors (16 models)
Games Workshop Online Store — Eldar Storm Guardians Heads Sprue
Games Workshop Online Store — Warp Spider Exarch Death Spinner
Games Workshop Online Store — Warp Spider Exarch Carapace
If anyone is interested, plz let me know and i'll post pictures of my progress from time to time (mind you, it might take awhile as I wont order the bitz until the end of the month)
definitely post pics. this sounds great, and i'd really like to make a one of a kind exarch for my current squad.
thanks, I'll start keeping a painting blogg once I can start building the little buggers!
