I just got some steel Legion guys, and I wanted some good colours.
I want a deserty feel, the closest to the actual eavy Metal colour paint scheme as possible.
Thanks in Advance
I know you want a desert paint scheme but I think Steel Legion look much better when they arn't painted up in camo.
My own Steel Legion models are part of my Adeptus Mechanicus army.
I started with the new basecoat red colour over black (not sure of the new name - Mechanrite Red maybe), washed with a mix of red and black ink and then highlighted with the same Mechanrite red colour mixed with Red Gore.
Belts, boots, gloves and gas masks were all done in Scorched Brown and highlighted with Bestial Brown. Pouches were Snakebite leather. Lasgun stocks were also done in Scorched brown and any metal was painted Tin Bitz with a highlight of Tin Bitz mixed with Mithril Silver.
Bases were done with Graveyard Earth and the highlighted with a white/Graveyard earth mix. Bases were edged with Scorched Brown.
It gives them a very dark and disturbing look - especially since any flesh showing is done in very pale - almost blue-ish colours. Like an army that doesn't get to see much light.....
Any imperial guard army looks good with a pale dark green colour uniform.
Can I please have an actual desert schen=me?
The GW site has some good ideas like this:
GW Online : Warhammer 40,000 : Imperial Guard : The Tallarn Desert Raiders
So try there.
Cervantes: In order to attain the impossible, one must attempt the absurd.
Hey, my steel legion are painted like the eavy metal ones, but in a way which doesnt take ages to do.
U can see them at
Jackets - bestial brown basecoat, then bleached bone only showing the brown in the recesses, then a light wash of brown ink.
Straps, masks, boots etc. - scorched brown, highlighted with bestial brown
gun- black with boltgun metal barrel, highlighted with chainmail
helmet - dark angels green mixed with black, drybrushed bleached bone.
Hope this helps, good luck with the army!
THanks for the info.
