Hey guys, as an experiment i got some orcs and formed them into an army. I painted the entire lot using Fanatic Army Painter Light Shade, using the dipping tecnique, where u dip the base coated model into the liquid and it shades and varnishes it in one go.
All in all this army took me around 30 hours to paint, which i think is pretty good considering its over 100 models. Any C+C is welcome.
For those people who think dipping is only for untalented hobbyists who cant be bothered learning to paint, this is an experiment. I usually do paint using traditional techniques, u can see some of my stuff (namely luna wolves) in the gallery or in previous posts, or on display in GW glasgow.
those look great! Dipping (IMO) really works on organic-heavy armies like these. For these though, i'd definitely hit them with a matte varnish to get rid of the shine, orcs shouldn't be shiny to me.
One last thing, i think i'd hit the metalics with a bit of highlighting (chainmail? silver?) just on the edges to give a "gleem" to them.
Other then that, good work! glad to see it's possible to paint a fantasy army in a reasonable amount of time
This isn't bad. I'm generally not that big a fan of dipping but these show that it can work well. Nice work, but not quite my thing. Oh, and the standard bearer has a mold line over his knuckles. -__^
Very nice, 30 hours for 100ish minis is pretty good going, beating my current painting rate by a factor of around 40, which is definately nice.
Definately get some dullcote on them though.
PS. 100 models in 30 hours => 100/30 = 3.333 against my most recent rate of one model in 12 hours => 1/12 = 0.083...
Now, I would say that mine looks a little better, but maybe that's just vanity... =P
